I went to the petrified forest in Calistoga CA recently. My first time there and it's a little over an hour away. It was about a mile hike overall and was very interesting. They had no collecting signs all over the entire hike. If you are ever in the area, I recommend it.

I live an hour away and didn't know it was there. Played tourist for a couple of days.
