Here's some material Son Of Beach sent me to see what I could do with it. There was some debate as to what the Lace Agate really was, but I'm fairly confident this is Crazy Lace Agate. The Leopard Skin Jasper is the only one to survive. I had two preforms of his material to work and one of mine. I just finished the 3000 wheel and fumbled the dop. It dropped, hitting the cabbing machine and shattered. The other one of my material made it through everything. I gathered a bunch to take off dop, and this other one slipped out of my hand...dropped and shattered on the floor! Curses! LOL Some of these will be making their way back to lumberlegs...

Glad some survived. Perhaps you need to look into those mats to put on the floor to sort of cushion the fall although that would not have helped with hitting the cab machine.

Boy when you slice 'em up and put a polish, it's cleary Crazy lace. Looks nothing like what I sent you! You captured all the best parts and I'm shocked you got that much white out of it, must have been the internal cuts.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't anxiously waiting to see what you'd come up with Hard to believe you salvaged something out of the Leopard Skin, there wasn't much to work with... If anyone is curious, here is what the original looked like

Where I work, there's a VERY thick linoleum floor. I've dropped several dopped cabs onto that floor and never had an issue. I think this week was just cursed for Leopard Skin! LOL Boy when you slice 'em up and put a polish, it's cleary Crazy lace. Looks nothing like what I sent you! Whoot Whoot! Thanks for posting the original pic. I meant to post a link to the thread with the pic in it, but forgot! LOL This was really interesting Crazy Lace. The red sections (again, I don't know what else to call it - other than "the red stuff") is VERY prone to pitting. A couple of these cabs have pits in the red filled lines, but I really don't think it detracts from the overall piece. When I was drawing out the preforms, I tried everything I could to avoid the red material as I best I could. Honestly, I love that piece of Leopard Skin! The colors in it seem to have a "patina" hue to the tones... I don't do a lot of groove wraps...but I felt these materials deserved a "full frontal"! LOL

I'm really liking that crazy lace. I love the dark lines. Very graphic. I like groove wraps, too, for letting the stone shine. Can't get much simpler.

I fell in love with this material when Chad first posted this...and then was over the moon when I slabbed it! LOL I know the groove wrap really is one of the best ways for making the stone the showcase...but it's not as much fun...or as satisfying as doing a regular wrap...

I'm really liking that Crazy Lace. Looks like someone let black paint dribble on them.

Good job, I'm happy that your leopard skin survived the groove cutting. Mine has fallen apart lately while cutting the groove.

I really like the last two Jason, and that Leopard Skin has a little graffiti look going on.

Good job, I'm happy that your leopard skin survived the groove cutting. Mine has fallen apart lately while cutting the groove. Thanks Alex! I was wondering if it was going to survive the groove cutter...it sounds like I got lucky! I will say, I knew each of these was going to get groove wrapped, so I purposely made the girdle extra wide...about 4mm. That pretty much gave me the same amount of girdle width on top and below the groove - all three basically the same width. I really like the last two Jason, and that Leopard Skin has a little graffiti look going on. I swear I didn't scribble on the Leopard Skin!! LOL Those will be the ones coming your way then!

Yeah dropping mine didn't help the groove cutting either. Did you groove before grinding/polishing or after?

Yeah dropping mine didn't help the groove cutting either. Did you groove before grinding/polishing or after? I groove mine after everything's done. I know I've read that others do it beforehand. I just figure if I've got the girdle measured wide enough to allow for the groove, then I don't need to adjust the girdle while doming...
