Came across a unique piece of fire obsidian that had a couple of small, random floating ribbon pieces...one red ribbon, and another of mirror. What you see in the cab was all there was and I'm so curious as to how that formed. The crazy lace is from what was left of the slab I used for the March entry. Gorgeous material...and superb workmanship...as always! I was just looking at a piece of Fire Obsidian yesterday which has a fire layer that has "folded" over on itself. I'm wondering if it's the same type of "ribbon" effect you're talking about...

It all has those ribbons of magnetite, and they almost never run flat That stuff will cause you to scratch a bald spot on your head because those ribbons often run crazy all over the place, especially the hotter stuff - that's probably the biggest challenge working with it.

LOL I feel you on that, some pieces take a great deal of pondering before they get close to anything with diamonds Often times even after you figure out a strategy, you're left with heart breaking decisions because you have to sacrifice one layer to get to another.

Kevin, that Fire Obsidian cab is absolutely amazing! Those triangles layered on top of each other look like a minimalist abstract paintings from the 60's.

The obsid is otherworldly! It looks like it should be on a Pink Floyd album. Amazing!
