Here's a couple more pieces I just got done with. This first one was kind of difficult, it's like there's soft bands in between harder bands and some of them were popping off during cutting. Close-up. See that piece on the bottom center, you can see the kind of crystally stuff, maybe that's what's inbetween the harder stuff. That piece broke off there so that's what I'm thinking. This one did pretty good and for the most part, held together pretty good. Close-up Thanks for looking.

Aw Randy, you're going to have to talk to Puppies about that, she's the one who knows where to pick this stuff up.

Cher, I think you're gonna need a new blade as much material as you are cutting!! I'm with Randy, I'll take a hundred pounds too. I'd love to cab that as well as the tahoma. Jeez there has been some nice stuff on here lately!
That does it. If our weather holds out I going to have to Fall Creek and try to get some of Steveholme's purple stuff Sunday!

Stuff looks good cher. The toughest rock I've cut to date was mex lace. Took all day saturday to cut up a 4 lb chunk.

Wow! Isn't that pretty! There's a lot of druzy quartz found in the nodules MO lace agate, I am no expert but I think that's especially true with the blues and seems such from my finds at that site. The drusy sort of splits off during the tumbling process or sometimes gets frosted looking/porous. Maybe that's what you are seeing. There are vugs & inclusions and whatnot all over the place with these. On the other hand, those transparent crystally pieces, once you get them smooth, are really beautiful. Are you finding the red line? Now that I look again, I recognize what you are talking about where the bands pop off! I've only done bigger pieces with irregular outsides so I've never actually popped it off, but it hit me that some of my favorite rocks have the flaw of having a white band right under the outside ones where it undercut and would never smooth out or polish. There must be a very large formation of this stuff where the bands laid down that way.

If you look at the second pic, right side, that kind of flat piece, that's one of the chunkss that popped off when I was cutting. Seemed only to be one or two layers of banding, none of them went any deeper. Other than that a few pieces broke apart and that's where I think it was like that druzy band. I'm not sure what red line you're talking about, haven't really seen any red lines.

There's always a red line in the fine banding somewhere. I'm not sure whether this is supposed to be true of all of them or specifically the blue gray variety but you definitely can see it in the blue gray. I think you are in a different part of the layering, maybe. You'll see it for sure in the more transparent areas and after you've looked at a bit of this you'll probably notice it more. Sometimes it is more pinkish and sometimes brighter red, it is in the finely banded parts. If you picture this stuff layering itself inside cavities, it would probably be in one of the bands close to the inside.

Ok, I remember you mentioning it but I had forgotten. I'll have to take a closer look at these tomorrow.

Wow! That's really some colorful lace you've got there. Can't wait to see some cabs. Bet they come out great. I've got to get busy and fix my big saw so I can cut some of mine. Got to add a cab of that to my show case soonest.

Sabre, where did you get it from? Don't think you mentioned. I always thought cool things would happen if the stuff was sliced up!

Nice CHer- That lace is fun! Even the Mex lace will "pop" bands- Some of it is very frustrating- Looks like you really got this cutting thing figured out! Have you cut that chunk of mex lace I sent you (it was one of the more solid chunks and should not "pop")

Oh yes Stefan, that was really beautiful stuff too. Didn't you say that was a piece of Arkansas Lace from Trish? It sure is beautiful.

Puppie: Bought some of my lace at the Stoddard Wells tailgate show and the rest through an ad in Lapidary Journal many years ago. Took it out and washed it yesterday pm and most of mine is in shades of black, white and gray but one big piece looks to have some yellow and pink. Really pretty material. You're lucky to live close by the site....mel
