Hi all. We made it back safely, had a great time, took a lot of pics, and collected some nice rocks. I'll start with the drive up and continue in other threads, otherwise you'll get bored with all the pics and rambling. So we're going up Hwy 101, a nice scenic route through forests of redwood trees, cruising along at 75mph in the left lane, when we see a sign along side the road, "ROCKSHOP TURN HERE". Luckily there wasn't anyone along side of us, cuz I just cut across both lanes and headed for the exit. This place is out in the middle of nowhere but it is what every rock shop should be like. We stayed and talked for over an hour and bought some really nice material. His father started the business 50 years ago and they have a lot of rock, I think he said 15 tons. So here are the pics. I"ll continue our journey in another thread along with pics of what we bought from this guy. Ed

Great shop you found there Ed, pray tell where is it? (101 runs though redwoods in the "middle of nowhere" for a couple hundred miles)
Another roadside rock shop that is only seasonal, but has a fairly diverse selection can be found out 128 past Boonville and Philo. Owner of this place has a Jade claim up on the Eel River that they work over the winter.

No fair Ed, you need to tell us what it is. What's the green stuff? And the blue stuff? What's that squiggly thing that looks like, I don't know, it's weird but cool. What fun you must have had.

This is what your house can look like in a couple of years if you don't have enough tumblers.

That must've been fun. Here you go just traveling along a beautiful area when all of a sudden you come across a rock shop. You did what I didn't. I couple of years ago, while traveling somewhere through Montana, I stopped at a rock shop. It was really nice with a museum type exhibit too. We stayed there for over an hour and never once thought of taking pictures. Now I have no idea where it was. Thank you for sharing those photographs.
