I am running a batch of Texas chert in my 12lb Lortone. I didn't get before pictures. All this chert was collected in Onion Creek = either in Austin or to the east of Austin. After 4 weeks of course grit tumbling I was able to pull a few out, and I was pleasantly surprised in the variety of colors and patterns. I photographed a few of the cooler looking ones (wet), so you can see the variety. Chert PhotosOne even has a Montana moss agate type feel - a clear/milky core with color intrusions. I'll add to the post as the rocks move along. Thanks for looking. Cheers, Dillon

Those look great! That forth one sort of looks like polish flint. I look forward to seeing the final results.

Thanks! Hadn't heard of polish flint before. I thought that stuff was petrified wood when I first started finding it - then some folks on here helped me with ID. I have a couple of big chunks of that stuff - most of them have a solid colored core when they are broken, but some are banded all the way through. Those look great! That forth one sort of looks like polish flint. I look forward to seeing the final results.

Good looking pieces in that tumble Dillon!! If you haven't done it yet, do a search on here for Ohio Flint - Nether's Farm, Flint Ridge, OH. It's some of the most amazing polished flint I've seen. However, that being said, the Prairie Agates we have out here are actually jasper and chert. The chert pieces are some of the best polishing pieces I've EVER run across!

Thanks, I will check out the Ohio Flint threads. Always looking for some good inspiration. Maybe some day we'll get up north to rockhound some OH flint, or SD prairie agate. dillonf I’m in Austin for a few days and the people we’re staying with are right near onion creek. Any spots/tips you can throw my way. We have done most of onion creek east of I35. If you are looking for cool chert anywhere east of I35 over to Southeast metro park is pretty much equally as good. If you are looking for fossils, anywhere downstream from large cliff sides seem to be most productive. Also, the further east you go from downtown the more fossils you tend to find. If you want specific public access spots PM me and I'll let you know of a couple. If you want crystal or arrow heads and such I have had much more luck out west on the Llano river. The Llano Flats is a popular spot where I have found some cool stuff. Make sure you grab some breakfast tacos when you're in town!! Hope this helps, Dillon
