What we have here......is some less than b grade dino bone capped with quartz (courtesy of wpotterw). The resulting fishbowl effect of the quartz dome magnifies the cell structure. Kind of cool. The bad news, I have been told, is that the epoxy holding the 2 stones together kills the resonance of both the stones. Rendering them virtually useless. Oh well, live and learn, back to the drawing board.

Okay first, two gorgeous rings!
Second, that fishbowl effect on the Dino Bone is totally radical!!
I'm about to do some doublets for the first time...so do you mind explaining what you mean by the epoxy killed the resonance? I'm not sure what you mean by that...and what do you mean they're useless?

Ok jasoninsd the way it was explained to me, the metaphysical benefits of stones is derived by the frequencies at which they resonate. The addition of epoxy or any stabilizing agents dampen the frequency at which they vibrate and this negates the benefits. I took up polishing stones because I thought they looked pretty. The logic above is something to think about .....or not😁!

It's not the structural integrity that was put at risk...just the inherent voodoo in the rocks! Got it!

Screw the resonance! Magnified dino bone is too cool. Beautiful rings.

jasoninsd I'm disappointed. I was hoping to get a gif out of you. It's cool to hear you are going to make doublets. With your cabbing and photography skills....we should be in store for a real visual treat!

Both rings are beautiful. My daughter would go bonkers over the dino bone ring!

@msali Thanks. I saw the band made on a YouTube tutorial. It is 2 strands of 1/16" square wire, twisted and soldered. Then it is hammered flat. I think I may oxidize it.

You've been given some bummer advice brotherbill - the resonance is still in the stone, you can't kill resonance, you just have to believe harder now to experience it.

jasoninsd I'm disappointed. I was hoping to get a gif out of you. It's cool to hear you are going to make doublets. With your cabbing and photography skills....we should be in store for a real visual treat! It was one of those things that could be thought of as "religion" by some...so I thought I better tread "lightly"...however... *Now...in all honesty...I can't say that I do believe in the metaphysical properties of stones or base metals...but I can't say that I don't either. There's a lot of things I can't explain in this world. It doesn't mean they aren't real or don't exist...I just prefer to see some "proof" in order to believe something. Someone very close to me says/believes they can see ghosts/spirits. I can't. My mind tells me they're a bit off their rocker...but my heart wants to believe them. Maybe that's one of those things I REALLY don't want proof of!! All of a sudden I'd have a van full of teenagers and a dog pull into my driveway and I'd have to start saying "Jinkies" all the time! LOL

New age mumbo jumbo aside, your work is beautiful, and I love the magnification effect of he dino bone doublet.

Love the dino doublet brotherbill . On the quartz topper, is it an optical man made quartz that is used or did you grind it ?? It's an in interesting technique I'd like to try Patty

I don't think I have seen a gem bone doublet. Looks really great. The cap really brings out the pattern. The rings are both gorgeous!

Love the dino doublet brotherbill . On the quartz topper, is it an optical man made quartz that is used or did you grind it ?? It's an in interesting technique I'd like to try Patty Thanks. The topper was made from quartz rough that I slabbed 3/16" thick. You can adjust the thickness depending on the height of dome you want to make. The curvature of the dome acts like a lense. The gem bone was slabbed less than an 1/8" thick. I like the technique for material that undercuts or material that does not take a polish.

Thanksfor the tips brotherbill. Obviously a nice clear piece of quartz. Guess I better keep my eyes open for some. You do nice work :-)
