Newbie here and haven't tumbled yet but now have my rotary, assorted grits and ceramic media in 3 sizes. I'm an organization freak, so want to know the best way to store each of these to avoid spillage and/or contamination. Also, I live in a VERY dusty area.
What kind of containers do you store yours in? Can I use washed coffee cans with their plastic lids or...?

I wish I could go out and take a photo but its dark. If you can wait until tomorrow I will get a photo of it for you as well as the lable. Suggestion, get yourself measuring spoons from dollar tree dedicated to that specific grit, less chance of contamination

Washed coffee cans are good. I use a lot of Hilshire Farm deli slice ham boxes. they have a lid so when I get a customer their order goes in one and on goes the lid and I take it up and down from shop to kitchen as needed no dropped parts. They are big enough to hold all the parts and dopped stones. I like cheap and in this case recycled. I also recycle cardboard soft drink flats for rocks. We double them and they weigh a 1/2" so if you need to weigh for inventory weigh flat and all and the spreadsheets takes of the cardboard weight automatically. So what ever is cheap and convenient.

I use wide mouth glass jars that I got at a yard sale. Plastic would probably be better because I know what it's like to be salvaging grit from bits of glass on the ground. Coffee cans would work just fine as long as they won't fall apart with use.

nursetumbler Thank you SO much for the pictures and sense of what they can hold. I'm a bit confused though about the polish and pre-polish filling those containers, when the coarser grits don't come close to doing so. Especially since you said all amounts are 5lbs. each, which is exactly what I just received from Rock Shed P.S. I have more wrinkles than you. I definitely have "worker" hands. π

perkins17 It wouldn't have occurred to me that grit would stick to glass more than plastic, but good to know! Yes, I can see the plastic coffee can lids failing over time, but replaceable as I love coffee!!

I definitely have "worker" hands. π The finer grit weighs less than the same amount of coarser grit so it takes more polish grit to weigh the same as the coarser grit. Just like "whats heavier a ton of rock or a ton of feathers? Weight wise they are the same but takes a lot more feathers to make that ton. Does that make sense? I confused myself lol

This is only like my second post here, but I wanted to share an awesome new grit container I discovered. My son's empty formula containers! They even come with a scoop and a place to hold it.

Great containers you both have! I decide to recycle coffee cans as I like the wide opening.
Anybody know a good source for buying multiples of teaspoons and tablespoons w/o having to buy complete sets of measuring spoons?

Oh boy, I have been using ziplock bags which work, but not as well as the ideas here. Time for a change. Thanks everyone.

I've dropped a glass jar full of grit before so just be careful if/when you are carrying it.
