Face the small end and see what shows up. Face the long end and then decide.

The last pick, which is the flat side, needs to go face down. If it’s plume, That’s where the plumes should be coming from. That’s what’s referred to as the host material. Then it really doesn’t matter what direction you cut. I’d personally cut width wise as opposed to length wise.

What size is your saw relative to the rock? Sometimes, you have an equipment restriction to take into account. Then it depends what you want to do with the cut rock. For example, you won't want to cut a window if the desire is to keep the rind untouched. If you will cut slabs for cabbing, then that won't matter much.

Thank you for the suggestions. I'm cutting this w my 20" saw. The slabs are so far so good. Nothing phenomenal. I'll live with that. It was a free rock.

Thanks for posting the pics. I really was curious to see if there were plumes or not in that one. It's too bad about the fractures.

jasoninsd absolutely. There are going to be some pieces without fracture that I can free form or try to cab. That's exciting to me bc I love the GP Plume Agate. It's not stunning but I'll take it!
