Hello again everyone. My tiger's eye is out of final polish. I'm very excited and consider my first tumble a success. Now that they are shiny, I can see where my faults are. #1 - Don't hit with hammer to break--use saw. #2 - Leave in 60/90 longer to finish shaping them. #3 - Use a few more pellets in the final polish. Other than that, I really like my tiger's eye. Take a look. Thanks for taking a look. As you can see, they have a fractured appearance. I think that's from the hammer. I thought they were smooth when I took them out. I suppose they needed longer or use a saw instead. Sorry the first pic is alittle blurry. It almost looks like the polish has filled in the cracks. I scrubbed them with a brush, but it didn't come out. How do I get rid of the white in the fractured areas? These must have fractured in the polish, maybe not enough pellets. It didn't seem that they where clashing around in there. They sounded cushioned. Oh well. I'm proud of my first try. I will defiantly get some more and try again!! Just tumblin' away, Tonja

Not bad and as you go you will learn more and more. You may want to try putting them in with some borax and pellets for a little while to help get cleaned up. You could also take them back a set or two and redo but you seem to have gotten the shine part right

Hi Tonja, Those look great! The fractures must be common, mine had a ton of them. After some grinding and re-tumbling, I've gotten rid of most of the fractures. If you let them sit for a month or two, they will actually "bleed" white polish. Take the worst looking ones and run them with the next batch, that's what I've been doing. Everytime I tumble some jasper and agate, I throw in a hand full of tiger eye re-tumbles. The second time around always makes a big difference. Randy

Well they look just great, a lot better than my first lot did which is why I didnt put pictures up of them but my second lot is due to go into polish tomorrow. Its a lot better now I have got 3 good tumblers instead of just one kids science tumbler, I have stones in every grit at the moment. I learned from my first mistake with the first batch of stones when I bought a kids tumbler and spent money on 3 good ones.
Oh and your penny came up shining really well
Cheers Chris

A good lesson learned. I wouldn't have known that it fractured that easily when being busted up. I'd toss the worst ones back into coarse and let them go through the stages again. As far as the polish in the fractures, try a borax wash, sometimes it comes out, sometimes it never will.

Great job- especially on a very challanging stone- You got the shine right- THe fractures are probably from them smacking in the polish- More pellets should help- also a burnish (borax and pellets) should help the white stuff- Tiger Eye is a harder stone to do so Congrates!

Thanks everyone. I put them in a borax wash last night. We'll see if it helped tonight.
I have amythsis tumbling now. Also, I have some obsidian I got from Tellfamily, ready to start polishing. I also purchased some malachite that I have been cutting on the saw and shaping. I won't get to tumble them until after Christmas. I have been reading another post on those, so I'm kinda scared to try them! Not sure if I spelled those 2 rock names right. Hope you know what I mean. LoL
Thanks for everyones kind words and encouragement!
Tonja

Tigers eye is one of my favorite polished stones! I just love the depth that polishing gives 'em. Very nice work! May you have continued success!
