I coaxed this small doublet out of a tumbled stone I found at the local New Age store. I must have examined 50 stones before I found this one with a small section of clean quartz and voila!

Very beautiful.
I've wanted to try some but the few times I've looked it up I've been surprised at the prices.

Complete newbie question but how is Lodalite quartz different from some of the varieties of moss agates or thunder egg cores that get shown off on occasion?

The visual difference that I have observed is that the inclusions in lodalite are suspended in water clear quartz (almost optical grade) which is seldom the case with agate.

Very beautiful. I've wanted to try some but the few times I've looked it up I've been surprised at the prices. I have never seen rough for sale but I imagine it could be pricey. This piece came from an $8 tumbled stone. The weight of the finished cab was under a gram which would make the finished cab around $10 a gram. In my books that is on the high side!

Thank you for the explanation, its beautiful material.
