Here's another one I made, just for fun - A Xylophone Tie. Nothing stone related in it, totally metal - But then this is the metalworking sub-forum :-) For my brother's birthday - He collects musical instruments - Not sure that he can actually play any of them, but this was one he could wear. It's completely made from flat copper sheet (no tubing except for the mallet), hand formed on a mandrel, connected with jump rings, and has a little attached hand mallet with a wooden bead, to actually play it. It also has a Velcro strap so you can indeed wear it as a neck tie. I got the idea from one I saw on the internet to purchase, but the ones you see out there are really just corrugated metal. Too one dimensional for me ;-) Thanks for looking, Patty

Patty, you are really creative! Did your brother ever wear it?

Thanks Robin. He did send me a photo of him wearing it. But he lives 1000 miles away, so I can't verify how often he's worn it. It was actually a lot of work - so hopefully he appreciated it. It was fun no matter.

Holy Moly! Color me impressed! How long did it take to do and how does it actually sound? If it plays the scale- I swear I will fall off my seat. LOL!
Oh yeah- How heavy or what gauge?

Thanks for the chuckle Tela
It does play, sort of - but as to it being perfectly in pitch or to an exact scale, I think it would be in the ear of the listener.
It look a while, but I'm glad I didn't have to put a price on it- as they all had to be graduated in size & of course formed exactly the same.
The top 'knot" was a bit tricky, as I wanted it to really look right- it has slots on the side for the band, to wear it.
As to gauge- It's all 24 gauge copper sheet . I got a large amount of old copper flashing a while ago & I use that quite a bit.

Thanks fernwood . Actually I made it from an old piece of copper flashing that I got at a garage sale. I always seem to end up doing things the hard way Patty

Thank you. 24g sounds pretty good. Just strong enough, but not too heavy.
It's certainly a tour de force and worthy of all the pride you can muster.
