Yet more great stuff! #4 and #6 are my favourites. Wow, you are going to have some busy tumblers for a long time to come!

Very cool, you must be building up some pretty good piles or rock around your house.

Cool! Do you need any permits for the sites you quarry from? I have yet to find a Jasper deposit that I could legally quarry. I'm planning on visiting the Hill 60 rhodonite site in Cowichan this spring. It's $70/person to go up though & you can only take what fits in the bucket they give you. I'd rather walk the beach of Sidney spit & hope to find some washed up from the "Patricia" deposit on South Saltspring Island. Still, i'd love to get enough to do a couple full 3lb loads in the tumblers. Awesome pics & rocks BTW! I love that poppy Jasper!

LCARS: To answer your question, the land is all either private property some of which we own, or accessable only through private property. Since we have a ranch in the area, I know most of the neighboring ranchers so find it possible to get access. Most ranchers will only let me collect surface material though as they don't want the possability of holes all over the place. Most the jasper sites are either in roadcuts or around the old abandoned goldmines in the area. Funny you should mention rhodonite. I've got some up to the 500 grit stage now and am going to try to polish it soon. Haven't had much luck in the past but I have some new polishes now so thought I'd give it another whirl because the colors are fantastic....mel

Sabre,
Getting a uniform surface is tough with rhodonite and can make it tricky to tumble. I believe this is due to the usually small sized crystals. I have only ever found three small pieces so I can't speak for the majority of samples even from my area.
I would suggest letting it entirely eat up the 120/200 grit stage & then give it a generous pre-polish before attempting to move it forward. I would also go from a slightly longer prepolish stage right into CO for awhile.
That's just what I would do anyway. I'm sure someone else has tumbled it more than me & has better advice on how to get the killer shine on it. I'm still working on one piece I found that didn't turn out the first time I ran it through.

LCARS: Thanks for the rhodonite advice. I'll try the cerium first as you've suggested. I also have tin oxide and chromium oxide so I'll try those if the cerium doesn't do the trick...Mel

Sabre-
I think you find some of the neatest rock around. I love seeing all the awesome stuff you can collect.
Once again, good score.
