So...any guesses where this material came from and from whom? LOL - Thanks realrockhound ! I fell in love with this material as soon as I saw the first picture of it! This particular slab did have some interesting little pockets or bubbles of this extremely soft brown material...or the little bubbles were empty. It polishes very well...and while it doesn't have that "perfect surface" due to the mini-bubbles, I think the overall look to the material makes up for any of the slight blemishes...but that's just me. LOL Thanks for taking a gander!

Yeah...I was really pleased with it too! I can't wait to see some of the other cuts out of the pile! I love dendrites, I can not lie. Pretty material! I won't lie either...I started singing the song "I like big butts" changing the word to dendrites! LOL

It reminds me of Paiute Agate (SP?).

Nice! I'm a big fan of dendritic agate too. Years ago, I got similar stuff from a shop in Nampa Idaho called Snake River Dendritic. No bubbles or vugs and more reds and blues in that material but the overall appearance was very like your pieces.

For anyone who’s interested. This material came off the back of the south side of the Ochoco reservoir. I personally know the guy who’s land it came off of, as he was great friends with my grandpa. I was at his house last summer speaking to him about it, and apparently there once was a big deposit of the material and every year during the prineville rockhound powwow, he’d have people come out and pay to dig some material for themselves. My grandpa ended up with a few tons of it, and just digging through the pile, the colors range from white all the way to pink/red. I’m planning on slabbing some more and seeing to what degree the quality changes. I’ll keep y’all posted if anyone has interest in the material.

Paiute Agate was one of the two materials realrockhound and I were talking about when discussing this material...see below for the other! LOL Nice! I'm a big fan of dendritic agate too. No bubbles or vugs and more reds and blues in that material but the overall appearance was very like your pieces. Thanks Mel! Interesting that you and Tela mentioned both materials realrockhound and I were talking about and comparing to this material! In fact, I've got a slab of Snake River (from you know who! LOL) that I'll be working in the near future. There are some definite similarities to Snake River and the Ochoco Dendritic!! For anyone who’s interested. Really wonderful work on the cabs! That material is beautiful, I too am a sucker for dendritic agates lol. I while back I bought some material that was sold as old stock Ochoco dendritic agate, some of it is definitely a dead-ringer to the stuff you posted. It definitely has the empty/brown orbs as you described and also white orbs. I liked the material so much after cutting a couple cabs of it I bought another batch of it when it went up for bid. At least now I know the material I bought was labeled correctly...or at least some of it was lol.

I'll second what realrockhound asked...if you're willing to post some pics, I'd love to see the material you have. If you do post them, feel free to post them in here, otherwise I'll watch for another thread...

Sure I'd be glad to share some pics of the material! As per jasoninsd and realrockhound requests here is some pics of the material I purchased that was labeled as "old stock Ochoco dendritic agate". Honestly much of the material doesn't look like much until slicing reveals the hidden goodness. Please don't judge the cabs too hard, they obviously aren't in the same league as Jason's yet lol. I wasn't planning on posting these but y'all requested so I figured I'd just upload them here since it's all supposedly Ochoco Dendritic agate. The material in these first 2 cabs are what came to mind when I saw Jason's killer cabs: I really like this next one, it reminds me of a outer space scene or the milky way or something: This is just a rough preform but pretty pattern: At first I thought this had to be from somewhere else, but looking at the rough rock it came from there is one side with the same black agate as most the other stuff. This one has only been roughed in on the 180 or 220 grit: This is the cut end of one of the rough rocks: This one is an odd ball of the bunch and I figure it's from somewhere else even though it was included in the batch: I haven't cut anything in the second batch yet as I've been busy with some self-collected mumbo jumbo lol. Y'all asked for pics so you got them lol. I can only imagine what kind of treasures are hiding in the tons of this material the realrockhound has lol.

I'm 100% convinced it is the same material! Definitely!! Okay...don't sell yourself short, those cabs look AMAZING!! They really do! That third one really is a stunning example...I really like the agate area in that one! Spectacular capture on that one! As far as that last piece...realrockhound might have a better idea, but to me, it looks like it could potentially be Ochoco Sunset Agate...maybe...

goldfinder first off, your cabs are great. You got some really good colors and patterns in them. Great polish as well. Secondly, I agree. 100% same stuff I have, ochoco dendritic agate. The last pic however, I'm almost positive thats Carey moss. It's insanely rare haha. For those that don't know, there was yellow moss that came out of the dig site (as opposed to the red moss and plumes) I have some and it looks almost identical. Don't work it until you're 100% sure you're ready for it. Here's some samples of more ochoco. Enjoy Not a nice piece, but it does come in reds, pinks, etc. You can see some small dendrites trying to come through in the corner Finally here's one of the stashes of rough. More of it runs down the fence line lol

Thank you both for the kind words! Yeah jasoninsd I definitely think you are right on calling that one as Ochoco sunset agate! I kept wondering what the heck it was lol. Oh wow, that's really good info realrockhound ! It does look like Carey moss agate, which it funny because I thought it was just some filler rock he tossed in haha. I'd guess it's at least 3 pound rock so a decent bit of material to work with. I'd assume it would need to be sliced pretty think to really show off the pattern? Probably some real nice stuff in that pile of Ochoco Dendritic you have there, seems to be a pretty hard to find material.
