Hey all, first contribution here is a bit sad but fixable enough - though I think I'm going to upgrade to grooved laps before I rework it. Been wanting to try my hand at briolettes instead of the usual domes, and wanted to understand how to correctly dop them so I volunteered one of my softer materials for the project.
The more chatoyant sections of the charoite had other ideas, being able to visually see how the stress effects a stone is a good learning experience though. Transferring to cut the round end Unfortunately the lighter section was too weak and gave way during the polishing of the round, could easily grind the point back, but the entire section is at risk of cleaving. Polished round, my photo isn't the best but you can see the lightening of the layers in the stone as they come to the surface and are lifted slightly due to the forces of sanding.
