Hmmm I see a path in the third pic but I'm not seeing any path going up that dang hill. How the heck do you do it? Sands, you talking about that big ol' rock left of center in the first pic? Does kind of look green, could that possibly be a giant boulder of jade?

Sands the cliffs are mostly serpentine. To get the good stuff you have to strap on a tank & dive.

Thanks Sands. Don't worry, you'll get there, your first two were terrific and you can only get better with practice.
What is serpentine? Can you tumble it? ;D

Great pictures Nephrite (All 4 posts) What sort of rocks would someone like me (a non-diver) expect to find along the shore line?

You can find & pick up all the other rocks you want. I don't know all the different kinds but there are many colors to chose from. The surrounding cliffs are serpentine, its all over the place in all sizes even as big as cars !

Neph-
Way to keep me informed of what's happening on the left coast. I'm glad you made it back from another adventure and that you didn't stay down there too long looking for that one last piece.
Given the name of the beach, are there lots of people out there looking for the jade too and have picked it over, or are you one of the few?
Can you find it along the shore after storms? What about the little pieces have you tumbled them before? How many people go diving w/ you?
Well, thanks again for bringing the camera and posting your "Cousteauesque" photos!
Gaetz

That trip is too cool. All those samples beneath the waves - must be great to be able to get down there and get them out.
Thanks for the pics Neph - much appreciated.
Mark.

Gaetz, It is a well known place to collect jade. There is only a small group of us that dive, most people think its too hard. Its hard to find someone to dive there, so I dive it alone 99 percent of the time. You can always find small pieces on the beach, sometimes you can even find large boulders. The best time to jade hunt is after large pacific swells, it usually uncovers pieces that are hidden. I have tumbled jade in the past and really need to perfect my skills.
