This might seem like a no brainer in some regards. However, what are the pros to being part of a rock club? What are the cons, if any?

Pro's are many. Hanging out with like minded people, Field trips, Sharing lapidary knowlwdge, Field trips, Learning about ethical collecting and teaching others, Field trips, Rock and gem shows
Cons If you don't want to find yourself volunteered for something, probably shouldn't join one. Some level of organizational politics as in any organization.

What Lee @rockkoonz said.
When I first moved to AZ to marry Vince one of the first things I insisted we do is join the rock club. Back in Illinois, there weren't any that were close enough for me to go to.
I have never regretted it. Most of my close friends here now are folks that I met at the club. Since we are both still working and my schedule is erratic, we don't volunteer for elected positions in the club, but I do volunteer to work the show (set up for me because we have a booth and I can't do anything else) and we have also become the go-to people for older members when they decide it's time to get rid of their equipment and/or rock stash.

My local rock club has a lapidary shop and work areas for jewelry making. The round trip and set up time could be as much as 2 1/2 hours. Easier to work at home. If I wanted to do silver smithing it would make sense since I don't have a viable work area. I'm sticking to just grinding rock.

Sometimes yes, depends on the club membership and how generous they are with that info. Due to the phenomenon of the social media generated raids and trashing on any good collection site that becomes public, many are understandably reluctant to share with anyone they don't know well. The AZ club I'm in provides only a meet spot and not the dig site location in their email because they had a dig site cleaned out before they got there once. Our first guided field trip in 2008 was not like that at all, our primary guide even took us to his own spot he intended to claim.
