I usually slab to cab. The rock was square so I took some slices.

Oh well. I laid out some designs on the slabs similar to the picture and one rotated 90 degrees. All except one fractured first on the saw and then snap, snap with my fingers. The band marked on the drawing shows as solid all the way through the rock, but any band is a potential fracture. Moving on to a different rock.

I cut three slabs off another rock and made 6 trim saw preforms. I dopped these.

I faced a piece of Owyhee rough and the pattern wasn't usable. I put it away. Today I looked at it again and saw blue showing through another unfaced side. I cut a slab and then made a preform. The new face was not usable; too much space between what is between the left and right of the original face. I was going to rotate another 90 degrees and make a new facing cut. My blade loosened and I need to take it apart. I'm waiting for a call back from Highland Park.

stardiamondThose look nice! What do you typically do with the unusable slabs? Break them up and tumble them?

My saw blade was loose and I couldn't tighten it. I had replaced the blade a while ago and only needed to hold the blade with my fingers and loosen the nut. I called Highland Park and the rep was not knowledgeable and no one bothered to call me back. I looked at one of the videos and saw the belt guard was off. I should have known that because I did that frequently on my Covington. I find anything to do with a slab saw traumatic. I removed the guard, held the belt with my fingers and tried to tighten and then loosen the nut. I was able to get the nut off, removed the flange and washer and then cleaned everything. I was able to tighten the nut and hand rotated the blade and saw a lot of wobble. I had nothing to lose trying to fix the blade. Put it on a concrete slab and gave it some whacks with a hammer. Mounted it and saw almost no wobble rotating it by hand. I cut these without any further issues.

I got some gem Owyhee from Roy, slabbed it and made preforms. I've been working on Spring Mountain and Painted Desert. That cut like wood on the trim saw and this stuff cut like rock.
