Hello all! I have a near new "Dan & Darcy" tumbler that I've been using since about this past December or January and I think I would like to upgrade. My first thought is either a Lortone 3A or Lortone 33B. Can't deceide which one yet. I'm a little afraid of getting a Vibe tumbler because it sounds like they might be a bit noisy and need more attention than the rotary. Am I correct on that? Since I live in a Condo I have to be considerate of my neighbors.
Is there something better than the Lortones I mentioned? I usually, well always, tumble small batches that are less than 3 pounds. Like everyone else, I want the best bang for my buck. I think I'll just sell my "Dan & Darcy" unit. I did buy two extra barrels for it just a month ago. Wish I hadn't done that! Does anyone have an idea of what one of these is worth?
I'm open to everyone's suggestions and opinions. Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks
Jim

Hey Jim...I can't answer the other questions...but I can tell you a vibe is definitely nosier than a rotary...
Personally I love my vibe because I have an excuse to check on it a couple times a day...I rarely need to do anything with it...but at least I get to sneak a peek! LOL

I have the National Geographic 3 lb rotary tumbler and the lot o vibratory tumbler. I got the rotary first then wanted things done faster so bought the lot o. Others might disagree but for me my rotary tumbler is quite noticeably louder that the lot o. I was a bit apprehensive and nervous to “learn” to use the vibe tumbler but it really is not hard at all and I’m really enjoying the lot o. Jugglerguy ‘s video on the lot o was helpful. I check on it a few times a day and give it a few squirts of water as needed. It’s not as high maintenance as you would think.

I also find the Lot-O tumbler to be quieter than my rotary tumblers. I tried the Raytech and the plastic bowls just made to much noise. The rubber bowl of the Lot-O makes it very quiet.

Loretones are the Honda of tumblers. I think you’d be happy with the upgrade and for the small amount of extra money I’d go for the 33b. I guarantee if you get the single barrel you be kicking yourself for not getting the twofer at some point down the line.

My Lot-O is also quieter than my Lortone 45C. Be aware that a vibe does not do well shaping the stones. I use the Lortone to do the initial rough shaping in the first stage and the Lot-O for the rest of the stages. A lot faster there and uses less grit. The Lot-O does take a little more babysitting. I usually check on it about an hour after I start a batch and then 8 or so hours later. I agree with getting the 33b for the rotary, gives you more flexibility.
