I posted a reply in a thread on my recipie for using a Raytech TV-5, try that. If it is too loud for you and you are going to throw it away, feel free to send it to me and I will be happy to use it.😁 I have 3 in a tumbling shed with soundboard and I can still hear it 50 feet away on my deck. 3 tv-5's hold the same as one 12lb barrel of rocks. Since I run 7 12lb barrels, I need more tv-5's. I only tumble during the winter time because my wife does not like to hear the noise. If noise is an issue, consider a diamond pacific MT-4, super quiet. If perfection is needed check out michigan rocks who uses a lot-o, if you have to do production work and a lot of it, consider a thumbler UV18. If you have a budget and dont care about noise, a TV-5 will work fine. Happy tumbling😁

Jason- I read your other post and appreciate your contribution. I'm not familiar with a Diamond Pacific MT-4 but if it's quiet, that's interesting. All the vendors I've checked are out of stock on the Lot o and the other popular vibes. As I mentioned before, I'm in a condo so noise is of great importance in getting a vibe tumbler. The TV-5 is so very attractive to me because of it's size, and it's price. From all I've read on this site, they are noisy and that is the main concern for me in purchasing one. I was wondering if the exterior of the bowl was sprayed with a rattle can of automotive undercoat and sound deadener if that would reduce the noise to an acceptable level for me. That stuff is pretty sticky so it should stay on the bowl OK. I'm open to your thoughts and from others as well.

As far as I know there is no way to make it quieter. These tumblers are really loud. I would not recommend the tv5 in your situation. Have you tried calling shawn at the rockshed about the mt4? Earlier this year he said he could get one in a few weeks.I have a friend who lives in an apartment who uses a mt-4 and she runs it in her bedroom. It is worth the extra money for quiet.

I've just gotten one and they're no louder than a Nat Geo rotary imo, make sure the lid is on tight, the rubber "nut" should bulge, the sound seems to be from the lid.
