Going to visit my sister soon and I want to rockhound and look for shark teeth while Im there. She lives in Crystal River, I've never been to Florida in my life and Im coming all the way from California! My sister will be working weekdays while Im there so that leaves me a lot of time to explore. Any sound advice on rock spots or shark teeth would be greatly appreciated. If you need a spot while you are in Southern California hit me up and I will put you on the rocks.

garbologistWell I live in Florida , but up on the Panhandle. For sharks teeth down there- 2 places come to mind, Peace River & Venice Beach. But both are not by Crystal River, they are further south. I think of Crystal River for the Manatees, not sure if they are there this time of year though. But swimming in the cool water alone would still be nice. Patty .... thinking this is the wrong time of year to come to sunny HOT Florida (bring sunscreen)

Not from Florida...but just wanted to say welcome to the forum from South Dakota! I do believe we have several active members from down in Florida...hopefully they'll be chiming in...as I want you to find tons of shark teeth and post pictures of your finds!

I recently posted about my Peace River trip from a couple of years ago. HERE I also went to Venice Beach. Didn't find as much and didn't enjoy it as much. It will be a bit warmer than when I was there in February! I really wanted to check out Ruck's Pit too but it was a bit farther south and I just didn't have the time.

garbologist not sure if you've made your trip yet. One thing I didn't mention. Vertebrate fossil hunting in Florida requires a permit. It's cheap and easy, just takes a while to get it. The info and application is easy to find with a Google search. A permit is not needed for sharks' teeth. It would really suck though to be somewhere hunting without a permit and come across a mammoth tooth or something else cool or valuable and have to throw it back! Kind of like hitting the progressive jackpot on a slot machine and you didn't play enough coins.
