Joe - The new camera's working great, but I like the wood your father found better.
What's the white stuff? Part of the rock? Or a reflection in water on the rock?

The rock is wet and the highlites are blown out in the pic. I need to set up a lightbox area to shoot in. I just clamped a droplite to a shelf to shoot that pic. It will get better. Yeah I love that piece of wood that dad found. It's only as big as three quarters but it was found by my Dad and he kept it for 50 years and gave it to me. I doubt I'll ever do anything except display that rock. Joe

Oh well, that's the end of the day for the camera. The batteries died! I haven't owned the camera for 12 hours yet and the batteries died. Methinks this is an omen.

Get yourself another set of batteries and keep them charged up, then you can just swap them out and keep going. Nice pics though. Digital is a whole new ballgame compared to 35mm. The digitals pick up so much more detail.

I ordered the A/C power adaptor for it. For 10 bucks I'll be able to plug it in and use it. That should work fine for shooting pics at home. You are right though, digital IS a whole new ballgame!

Joe-
Congrats good buddy. It's great to have a good digital camera.....just shoot shoot shooot. I have 3 sets of the rechargeable batts. I rarely have problems. However, when we had our baby one month ago, my wife and I had a communication problem and we didn't have adequate battery power. I just had to go down to the gift shop and pick up some batts at the gift shop. It's always nice to carry some Duracells in the case as a backup. My rechargables have lasted almost 4 years and I use them ALL the time. I shoot 30 pictures or so a week, sometimes 30 a day. I've got a FujiFinepix 620 and love it. I've had it for 3 years and am ready to upgrade. Dang cameras are addicting. It's nice to have a good camera that you can have great photos for the rest of your life.
Keep 'em coming,
Gaetz

joe - I have a PC. I downloaded Ultrafractal 3.05 and mostly am just tweaking the fractals that came with the program. Do you write your own formulas? Hope it's okay to talk about a non-rock topic here! retror Just tell me if I should..........

Fractint and Ultrafractal are the 2 most popular fractal apps. for the PC. Mostly I alter and complicate existing formulas. I have written a handful of them but it's a lot of trial and error. It's hard to envision where you will end up in fractal space. I don't know. Chaos theory and rocks should have SOME connection. How about- I'm a Strange Attractor for rocks- Ok it's late and I gotta go to bed!! G'nite all
