Third picture from the bottom is some pieces of pet wood that I got from Randy RWA3006. They broke off in the rotary so I threw them in with this batch in the lot-o.

Son Of BeachThanks! any tips for Lake Michigan rocks? Do you use the lot o to finish? I only did them in the lot o starting with 120/220 for a few days, then 500 AO for a few more than AO polish for a few days. (All grit is from the Rock Shed) wondering if they would benefit from 60/90 in the rotary? I still like the natural look so thinking it would be a waste to put them in the rotary. Sorry I’m rambling and thinking it loud.

Sorry I’m rambling and thinking it loud. I mean, the only benefit to the coarse run is to really help bring in the edges and take away from the natural look. I've gone back and forth and it's a judgement call, some rocks look great the way they are and don't need the extra work.
For me personally, I enjoy the rounded shape a little more. It's not always beneficial though, you kind of learn when to call it good.
There is an art to it, and you seem to have captured the natural look pretty well
I'm wondering if my polish is lacking, you and others seem to have that extra shine I"m lacking

Son Of Beach Thanks Chad! what tumbler and polish are you using? Oh sorry, forgot that part...
I use a couple 12 pounders for most of the work in coarse, then Lortone 33B to finish the little spots in coarse, then I switch to my Lot-O for the 220 SC/600 SC/ "Micro Alumina" Polish (from the RockShed) stages
I'm running my first batch in rotary all the way to see if the results are any better.

Son Of BeachI was typing your name and misspelled it as limberlegs lol!! Could it be the 600 SC stage? I don’t use that. (When skipping the rotary) I do 120/220 SC for the first stage then 500 AO then AO polish. All from the rock shed. Maybe switch out the 600 SC for 500 AO??

Great shine on those Ashley!!
I've got a lot of Prairie Agates that have a spot or two in them. If I tumble them in rotary to get past the spots, I wonder if it will wear down the parts of the rock I really like. It really does seem to be a judgment call a lot of times.

Hey, if I ever get there, I'll rename myself
I'm not sure what's happening. I don't mind the finish on my rocks, I think they are gorgeous, but it feels like I'm doing a half the shine I should be.
Good thing this isn't a hobby for the patient.

Nice batch! The pet wood from Randy is superb. Some rocks just aren't ever going to get a shine on them. Like the small group photos and they are fantastic. Thanks for sharing #3.

StarguyThank you! Yes, it is. I am doing mostly rounded beach rocks from Lake Michigan and Lake Superior, so I’m not putting them in the rotary just doing the lot o.
