So I’m not gonna lie, I’ve read NOTHING in here about wire wrapping. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ I know, I know. I will. Bought some stuff. Watched a couple YouTube videos. Definitely wrong order. the thing is, I don’t really like standard wrapping. I can appreciate it. I see the beauty and the skill, it’s just not my style. So trying my own. now that I have a “feel” for it, I’m gonna do more research. I like where this is headed. Definitely no “keepers” here. Oh, man are my fingers sore!! 🤣🤣🤣

Boy, I sure recognize the tangle of wires in that last one! LOL!
Good for you for trying to work out your own style. It looks like you might be trying for the cage wrap. It's really good for tumbles. Keep at it! Your first tries ain't half bad.

What kind of wire are you using? Is it stainless steel? Stainless is wicked hard to work!

CLErocksThose are really cool Heather! I like that you are doing what you want and not “going with the flow” of just doing what others are doing for the sake of conformity. I like the lightning bolt zig zag. I agree with mohs,I think it has a lot of potential!

Heather, good for you for venturing out!! I had several people ask me about wrapping "natural" stones (rather than cabs) when I did the show. I definitely don't have the eye for it...yet! PS...I haven't forgotten about the tumbled rocks...don't give up on me yet!

Googled cage wraps and definitely more my style. Watched a few more videos. And now to spend more time practicing. It’s fun. It’s frustrating. But I assume like anything, gets easier with practice!!

It does get easier. You'll learn how to handle the wire, use the tools as an extension of your hands and develop muscle memory.
I couldn't tell if you are using it or not, but half round wire is the best wire to use for doing your initial bundle wrap. Leaves less of a gap between the wire and stone.

A very good first attempt, CLErocks ! I agree with mohs and ashley , the ZZZZ pattern has some potential.
I do have to ask... In the two shots that have three of your attempts, the one in the upper left corner, is that a tumbled granite? I collected a bunch of them a year or so ago at one of our grands graduation party. I just liked the colors. Sadly, my first batch didn't polished up well; too much undercutting and not a lot of shining. I've put it aside, not quite knowing what to do with it.

There's an older book, that's still out there ,that you might be interested in . The author does a fair amount of different shaped stones (not just cabs). And shows how to build a cage of sorts and and armature on the back of a stone to hold it.
I for one am someone that likes to read info, you-tubes and internet alone aren't it for me, but maybe I'm just weird that way.
Anyway, thought it might help you get started easier,
Patty

I agree, Moods in Wire by Ed Sinclair is an awesome book. I own it and have used many of the designs as a launching point.
