This is the one cabochon I've been working on recently. That's not a narrow one! Not sure of the material, is this biggs Jasper? It was included with a box of scraps and slabbets I bought on the marketplace here.

I don't know what it is, but it's a really nice cab, with a spectacular pattern. Good planning. :-) Patty

Love the pattern on that! Reminds me of a rock I have.

I thought I had a before picture but guess I don't. I bought this with a bunch of scrap pieces from the marketplace. The piece wasn't much larger than this. I made a template that I thought would work well with the design and size and didn't have to trim much off. I almost went freehand but I really liked the pattern and sometimes freehand I take just a little more off here, then a little more on this side, then round this corner off...pretty soon there's not much left.

Deschutes. Nice cab brother.
Edit: The more I look at the color and pattern, I’m thinking it’s beers mountain.

Great looking material...and great cabochon! I love the shape you chose on this one!
If you're not putting a slight bevel on the bottom edge of the girdle, you should. It cleans up any slight chipping along the edge there...and when you go to wrap it, it keeps the wire from chipping that bottom edge.

Boy, you guys have an eye for detail. No bevel on the bottom yet. It's was just freshly taken off the dop stick for the pic. Still has a glob of superglue on the bottom too.

That's how awesome your work is becoming...we're only left with picking out the smallest of details. Truly, please don't take it as "nit-picking"...just suggesting things that will help you out.
