I am experimenting with corn cob dry media with several hardness materials using 1000AlO and 14,000 polish from the Rock Shed. The stones came from a 1200 flat lap directly into the media using a UV-18 vibe. This process worked well with the soft material but not the harder palm wood. Several of these cabs were produced for the narrow cab contest but some were also part of the experiment. My goal is

finding a vibe method to polish Woodward Pom Pom agate.

I tried walnut shell and wasn't impressed with the result. How does your polish compare to doing the same rocks with standard 1200 polish?

Greig, when I have a hard material that doesn't undercut I can get a very good polish by leaving it in the vibe an extra week. I also noticed that any scratches were not removed by this process in the harder material. You can see the scratches in the Woodward Ranch south Pom Pom enlargement. The softer material did ok and obtained a good polish after 7 days.
