Ben Burger Has shed new light on the end of Permian Time. www.benjamin-burger.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Burger-etal2019.pdfThe exact layer where Permian Time Ended - Suddenly calcium rocks stopped forming.
Organic life stopped! suddenly there was a LOT of sulfur that started combining with iron.
Yep, a LOT of sulfur!
Very interesting and thought provoking!
On the above, Why does the pattern repeat every 30 thousand years? Was earth hit by a comet and keep running into it's tail stream? Suddenly there is a whole lot more mercury in the ocean!
And just as suddenly there is a whole lot more Nickel.
For me that is definitive proof an asteroid or comet ended the Permian.

Why do you see proof of an asteroid or comet impact? Burger's actual paper includes several statements that evidence of the various concentrations are so low as to rule out an impact as the cause of the Permian-Triassic extinction.
Just wondering why. I can't judge these conclusions.

I can't judge these conclusions. Geologists have always hated the idea of impacts and ignore most of the indications. Every atom on this planet came from outer space. At present IF IT IS IRIDIUM then possibly it was an impact. If a huge asteroid hit there would be huge waves that break loose huge boulders and tumble them into conglomerate layers as are found where they find gold IF you watch GOLD RUSH. Ignored. If ' ' ' rock layers containing water - the water would be turned to steam and explode. Nope, that was a volcano. If ' ' ' the shock waves would drive all the gases out of the oceans creating anoxia. Ignored. If ' ' ' ' ' ' wwould create waves in rock layers for hundreds of miles in all directions. Ignored. If ' ' ' ' ' ' would cause volcanic activity. Ignored. If ' ' ' ' ' ' would drive the water back and forth in sandstone, releasing the iron as lines in the sandstone, pipes around the water pathways, Ignored. Shockwaves would turn on and off quartz crystals, magnetism would attract and repulse iron, creating concentric iron concretions. Ignored. Etc on a grand scale.

I'll take your word for it that geologists are not fans of Permian|Triassic impact theories. But, hey, we can begin to relax a bit! There's a new mathematical technique just developed that will significantly speed the tracking of asteroids. It's expected to calculate the orbits of millions of asteroids within the next decade:
