That can be dangerous, but fun.

Holy moly, that's a lot of stuff! It would take more than 3 days to go through all of that.

Wow, I just looked up the address and it's only about 20 minutes from me. Lucky! Does that mean you're going to check it out, and maybe bring back some things to share with those of us who aren't so fortunate? (Why does this thing not have a puppy-dog eyes emoji?!)

From the sale website-
"ALL MUST SELL BY END-OF-DAY SATURDAY"
Yeah, good luck with that! I think they are being overly optimistic.

That's only about two hours from us ... too bad I didn't know sooner as we were out just farting around all day yesterday looking for stuff to do.

Ok, I'm going to blame it on you guys. I saw all the post here at lunch. Went back and told my people I'm playing hooky the rest of the day. I'm heading out in the next 15 min or so. Good tag Tommy, rockhoundingwithkids is even closer than me. The sale is a Ceres address but it's actually between Ceres and Turlock and they live in Turlock.

A person could get into big trouble there. Have a good time, find some nice stuff (we'll be expecting photos later, lol), but remember to use restraint!

Didn't get much. A nice piece of petrified wood, some slabs of jade and a couple other little slabs. They start discounting rocks tomorrow afternoon. I think I'm going back first thing Sat morning. There's several large pieces of petrified wood I'm interested in.

This is what I got for slabs. They had more Jade than anything else. Mostly they had rocks that had already had slabs cut off of them. I spent $40 total. I bought a large piece of petrified wood for 20 so I guess he slabs were another 20. None of the slabs except the Jade were marked.

So on a whim Eva and I took off for Ceres this morning. I didn't get to see it before it got hit at least twice but there was still a LOT of rocks for sale. It kind of just kept going and going the farther you walked into the back yard. I found one large pile of fairly undisturbed rocks that had a lot of thundereggs in it - in the old days I probably would have sat down and spent about three hours sorting through just that pile picking the eggs out of it but I'm still thinning out my own stash by cutting through it - and I have no business hauling home a bunch of new stuff. So the highlight of the sale was two authentic planter pots with grape vine decorations, very fitting to drag back to Napa with us lol. They are old and VERY heavy - they weigh probably 60 lbs each. They were marked $100 each which is already a steal at local prices here, but at noon today prices of everything were dropped 50% so I grabbed them. I did find a large chunk of faced Hornitos breccia that weighs probably 20lbs. It amused me because I see a certain rock celebrity on FB who claims this Hornitos breccia material to be a recent find by them as they sell 2 inch slabs $20 and people are eat it up. This chunk had probably 30 years of dirt on it. I had dig it up out of a where it has been undisturbed for a very long time and spray it off before I could even tell what it was. I was hoping to find a hunk of poppy jasper but this is as close as I came so anyway, I got it for $5 so that's good. I also couldn't resist this thick slab of local Magnesite. I can't tell if it's from Anderson Lake or New Idria - they look very similar. It's very cool and highly detailed in the trademark connected dots pattern. I searched for wherever this slab came from but it was all I could find. There was a TON of magnesite boulders in various places but none displayed the green translucent inclusions.

Holy Moly! All this on a single estate? I can actually see the rock rings from Google Maps :-) Speaking of the rock rings - by the time I made it to the far back where the "rock maze" resides they had a sign saying it was off limits. According to the estate sale manager, the estate owner (the brother of the deceased) had had a "change of heart" and decided not to sell the rocks in the rock maze. This was an absolute shame because there are some really good rocks in there - in particular I found probably a 70# boulder of Stone Canyon looking jasper and told the estate sale manager I would give him five times the $20 asking price on it but he couldn't do it.
