Howdy folks, Well, I have five barrels turning now and two more on the way from the Rockshed so, if all goes well, I should have some stones coming out almost weekly from now on. Here are a couple of pics from a mixed batch of slabetts, re-dos etc that finally came out today. The close up is of three of my favorites. Top is Cady Mountains Moss, right is a nice nugget of Sierra Primrose Jasper that has the bright red orbs against a background of really purple hematite, and the left stone is a Dryhead Agate from the Pryor Mountains in southern Montana. Thanks for lookin....mel

Ooooooooo Mel, those are beautiful. I love that Dryhead agate. Hmmm my brother lives in Montana, which part of the state are those found in? He's in the Bitterroot Valley. That's certainly not the only pretty agate in the group, there's quite a few in there. Very nice job!!

Cher: The old Dryhead diggings were just north of Yellowtail Dam maybe 50 0r 60 miles se of Billings. I beleive they're closed now. can't remember exactly why but they were on part of the wildhorse range and I think some of the area might be indian land so that may be some of the problem too. I went there probably in the early 1980's I think. It was a fee dig then. A guy told me there are still agates to be found in the area along the river above the dam but he said they were few and far between.....mel

Beautiful stuff (as always) somehow I got the idea that you couldn't tumble agate with drusy holes all the way through. Guess I was wrong about that, which is good news!

Mel-
I'm loving your stuff still. Awesome job on that batch. What's the "purple eye" on the right side at about 2o'clock? Kinda interesting!!!
Can't wait to get my weekly peek at Sabre's activities.

Gaetz: The purple eye agate is a Botswana. Gotta love those bots!
Pinemountain: Slabs with vugs or crystal centers are grit catchers so you've got to clean them good and the sharp crystals do wear away but I do them all the time. Got a batch of Coyamitos waiting for the tumbler right now.
Steve: I love that feathery one too. Looks like a Brazilain ocho but it came from the Bouquet Plume Beds on the Bishop Ranch outside Marfa, Texas. Only one like that I've ever cut. Most the black and whites from there are simply black plume or banded specimens....mel

Alice: Dryhead Agate takes an amazing polish. The matrix usually comes in two colors, deep brown or greenish. The specimens with the greenish matrix are often exceptional. With both types, the matrix adjacent to the agate seems to be highly silicified and takes a great polish so don't be afraid to include it in your stones......mel
