I don't think so, that's just over $3 bucks a pound. Nothings too bad at that price. That is a serious chunk of gorgeous you have there.

Three bucks a pound seems like a steal for that beauty. There's been a lot of pictures of tumbled carnelian in the past (also on main RTH hobby site, which looks like Mark has up-dated), but that baby is just beggin' to be slabbed first.

I wish I had a slab saw, to slab it. There is a group in Racine Wi. but when I went to one of there shows in the spring, they all seemed to be on the prickish side. I was thinking about joining till I met them all. Plus, me being 45, I seem to be about 30 years younger than any of them.

Wow Edog. That is a nice chunk of stone. And a really good price too. That's gonna make some very cool Drool Stones.

That's too bad, Edog. I went to a local gem show a couple of months ago and the old timers were such a friendly bunch. They didn't care if you bought anything, just loved talking about their craft. I think a lot of these groups are having trouble getting new blood. One reason, I was told, is that so many of the old collecting sites are closed now, so field trips aren't what they used to be.

earthdog, I'd say you got a steal! That looks like a fantastic piece you have there, and I can't wait to see what you decide to do with it. I'm also suprised at the old-timers you met at the club....most of the older folks( both male/female) that I've met, that are in the hobby, have been very pleasing to meet and exceptionally helpful. In fact, I just met a guy down in my brothers church, that does wire-wrapping. He invited me over to his house when I have a day, and he'll teach me the tricks. I'm very excited....I've wanted to try to attempt this for quite some time...now I have a reason too...YES! BTW, are you from Rascine? My nephew married a girl that is from there. Can't think of her last name, but will let you know. Anyways, Great piece of Carnelian. Steve

Carnelian cuts and polishes like a dream, and this is coming from a newbie. It was very easy to work with. I have some beautiful mini slabs. I tumbled with pellets from start to finish, it had a tendency to fracture. Tin Oxide or AO work great! Enjoy it, I don't think you paid too much... Marian

Earthdog, you got ripped off bigtime. Fortunately for you, I'll give you your $26 plus postage back if you send it to me ;D
Truth be known, that's some of the best banding I've ever seen on carnelian. Looks like the right-side has nice translucent material too, so you get two kinds of carnelian in one package!

Nice rock there E- I know what you mean about the local clubs- The one around here is kinda snobbish- they are so INTO local fossils and visiting the local limestone Quary (to collect some nice Flourite) Other than that they really won't give ya the time of day (I asked about the Lap arts- and the guy just shruggs- said they had a member a few years back who used to polish rocks- but he quit cause no one else was interested)

Thats the way The Racine Geological Society, is. They don't care alot about polishing rocks. There was this one fat woman there that I bought some lace from, she gave me her yahoo ID and so I added her to messenger, when I wrote her a note asking her about more stuff to buy, she banned me from writing to her.
