9 weeks after surgery and feeling real good so I have been slabbing a few over the last 5 or 6 weeks. Garage gets to 94 to 96 degrees by 3:00pm so all the cutting is done in the early morning. This one appears to be Ocean Jasper, just looks a bit different from what I have seen before; IMG_4161 by Findrocks, on Flickr African Bloodstone as best I could tell from my Internet searches. Got about 7 slabs out of this one. It's translucent in the non-red areas; IMG_4156 by Findrocks, on Flickr Sodalite. Loaded this 30 pound piece before surgery on the 24 inch and about 3 weeks after the procedure started taking a slab every other morning. Took 8 slabs and look ro get 6 or 7 more after gluing the remainder and cutting. Have another 20 pound piece to slab; IMG_4162 by Findrocks, on Flickr Unfortunately my 24 inch saw is in need of a good cleanout. Not a Summer time project here. That works for me as I need another 8 to 10 weeks before I am recovered enough for that nasty job, hopefully by Sept. Henry

That first one really does look like Ocean Jasper. I worked some awhile back that was labeled as "B-grade" when it was sent to me. I don't know what exactly made it "B" grade because it polished amazingly well...but your piece does look pretty similar to the stuff I worked.
I totally agree with the African Bloodstone identification on that second piece. Looks exactly like the stuff I've worked.
That Sodalite is SO gorgeous...the deep blue color in that piece is stunning!

I have to agree with Jason, that Sodalite is prime. So much of the stuff I've seen has lots of white in it, sometimes equal to the blue. And lots of slabs!! I look forward to see what you do with them.
Glad you're feeling better :-)

That Sodalite is to die for, Henry! I'm so glad you feeling good enough to be doing some lapidary. I'm also glad that you're not pushing yourself too much, either. I always knew you were a very smart man!

Awesome slices Henry. The sodalite is yummy. It's super hot/humid here, be cautious out there.

Seriously Henry. These are some of the hottest June/July days we have also due to the still air and high humidity. Longest days of the year too making ground and buildings hotter than average.

YES on the OJ I have some like that as well. Mine was also labeled B grade (I was told the lack of bright colors, and the tendency to be more fractured). African Bloodstone- Check. I have a slab or 2 laying around somewhere. Fun stuff to work for sure. The Sodalite is real nice as well. I just cleaned my 14 inch saw last week (hot humid messy job) and the only positive thing from it was that is was so warm the oil flowed and filtered very quickly. Glad to see you on the mend!

Seriously Henry. These are some of the hottest June/July days we have also due to the still air and high humidity. Longest days of the year too making ground and buildings hotter than average. I am pacing myself. Getting my "hot weather acclimation" mojo back. I was born and raised here in Houston and grew up in a house with no A/C(kids still don't believe that!). Have always done well in hot weather, when I was running a lot, used to pick Sat or Sun on the Summer weekends for a 5 mile run at 3:00pm. That and Sand Volleyball doubles in the heat and our 6 man Summer tournaments were usually in un-air conditioned gyms. Not back to that level, if ever, just yet but getting there. We had a new 3 ton A/C unit replaced about 2 weeks ago, 1 of 2, and some dang fool put his Rock Garden all around the 2 A/C units. Had to move about 600 to 700 pounds of rock to make room for the workers. Just put about 300 pounds back this afternoon, will hopefully finish the rest on Friday. I am being careful, no bucket is over 1/2 full, usually a bit less, taking breaks every 40 minutes or so inside with lots of water. The days of carrying 2 full buckets are in the rear view mirror. Maybe all that heat abuse over the years permanently affected my good sense!!!
