Howdy all, Finally got the homemade wheeled cabber up and running a little while back. It is so much faster and more efficient than the old dual wheel slant cabber (flat lap) I was using before. It's currently setup with a standard set of 6" JB supernova wheels but there is plenty of room to add a couple more wheels or try 8" wheels at some point. Here's a few interesting ones I've cut so far. This first one was a nasty looking end cut of a Brazilian agate I'd been kicking around the garage for a while. It had about a 1/4" of thick nasty white "rind" on the outside and figured it'd be great to break in the wheels with. I was pleasantly surprised to see the nice orb's and pattern start to appear so I didn't grind it too far to save some of that sweet pattern. The colors sort of reminds me of the starry night painting or something. Laguna lace: sort of mellow colors and pattern on this one Another Laguna, this one had a few surface fractures and almost tossed it after the 220 wheel but it held together just fine. Kaily agate

Those look awesome!! I remember the excitement I had getting off the slant cabber onto the wheels! I'm happy for you!! That first one is an amazing material! I'm glad you held onto that one!

Nice way to break in some wheels. They look great! I like the last one best. I love red crazy lace.

Thanks all for the kind words!! jasoninsd Yes it is exciting how much faster is it to make cabs on a wheeled machine. The flat laps are a great way to get into the hobby cheaply (Gateway drug? Lol JK). I got both of my dual wheel slant cabbers for only $40, although they needed some work. I'm now using one as a dedicated polishing station. Happy I made the jump to the wheeled cabber sooner than later. liveoak I haven't posted any pictures of the machine yet. It's still a work in progress but I think might post it in the Lapidary Equipment section soon. It isn't the prettiest thing but it works really well. It was a lot more work than expected building it but glad it's finally up and running well.

I had the same experience going from an old craftsman Flat lap to 6" wheels.
For me it was night & day.
I was suggesting the photos - crude or not, if it's working, it can inspire other people to make one. Maybe other people can also give you ideas on how to improve it.

That's a good point. I'll try to get it cleaned up and some pictures of it and make a post. I know I looked at the DIY threads on here extensively while building it. Hopefully it'll help someone else.

LOL I'll second Patty's suggestion of posting pics...it's amazing to see what people can do with what machinery.
