These are my cabs for the week, pictured on the front of Rockhounding Idaho: Labled left to right; (Or top to bottom. Somehow the picture got flipped) Mohave purple turquoise in bronze, Pictureless picture jasper (looks like wildhorse without the scenery, no clue on real ID), petrified wood, maybe saddle mountains, mahogany obsidian, and onyx. Turquoise: Jasper: Pet Wood: Obsidian: Onyx: I'm now completely out of everything except for the wood. I'd never cabbed onyx before, and it was softer than expected (hence the odd shape lol) and I was pleasantly surprised by the obsidian. It seemed to actually like me! Thanks for looking! Comments, questions, and critiques are always welcome. -Nicholas

Man the Mojave Purple is sweet stuff. I have trouble finishing a single cab and your pumping them out. Do you purposely try different materials? This is my approach too but I’m not ready to work on softer stuff yet; still trying various quartz family stones.

This is my approach too but I’m not ready to work on softer stuff yet; still trying various quartz family stones. I'm now officially out of the Mohave sadly. I really like it. I generally do three at a time (in this case 3 Tuesday and three today) because I use a two wheel arbor. I do purposely do different material so I don't get bored, but I could do two or three of the same at one time. Softer stuff is actually easier in some cases for me. I dome the cabs on time, take a break, and then come back and finish from the 220. I have a little bit of a short attention span, so these things help. I'm gonna have to do a ton of gold sheen obsidian soon because I'm at the bottom of my preforms bin and that's almost all that's left. I need to cut some slabs at the club soon!

good stone work and variety Nich the photo set up has lots of potential i like Thanks Ed! The set up was all I could think of at the time. It spruced things up a little. Either that or there's some huge polished cabs somewhere in an Idaho creek! Lol.

I'm working on getting better, however long that takes. I actually did an acceptable job on the obsidian which was kinda shocking to me. That backdrop turned out a little differently than it was meant too be lol! (I don't want to be swimming in the creek under those cabs just after this picture was taken... *shudder*) -Nicholas

Cabs are nice perkins17 . I'm in love with your Mohave purple turquoise in bronze. That one steals the show for me. Backdrops can be good. I like that your experimenting. Keep in mind that you don't want them to distract from your cab or jewelry, etc. Patty

I don't really know what I was thinking with the backdrop lol. I think I'll just go back to a slab or white background now. -Nicholas

I'm really happy with how the obsidian turned out because I've struggled with it in the past. I'm out of the turquoise but I have a lot of obsidian so hopefully you guys like seeing it! I'm going to need to head to the club to cut some this week.

I can't wait to cut up the material you sent me. I've got it all marked out and ready for the club saw. Maybe some time this week. I'm glad you liked them.

Don't give up on backgrounds Nicholas perkins17. I think a background should vary depending on the stone & should be a contrast in both texture and color. IMHO that makes the cab jump out, not fade in it. In other words if you have a cab that is a smooth even color, then maybe a textured rougher background. But if you have a heavily patterned stone, then I think it would look good on a smooth background of a contrasting color. But that's just my opinion & everyone has there own idea about it. But don't give up- keep experimenting with what looks good to you. Patty
