JDennis: Pretty kewl looking but a word to the wise. An egg fossil of that size is worth lots of money and the Chinese have whole villages now devoted to faking artifacts, fossils, antique weapons etc. I collect antique edged weapons too and the market has been literally flooded with very good looking fake bronze swords, axes, knives etc. ( check e-bay under antique swords and see!) They have truly raised fakery counterfeiting and, in the case of DVDs and CD's theft, to a high art and are very convincing in their sales talk. Overall, I wouldn't trust those guys any farther than I could throw them but if you just want something cool looking for display, their creations do look real good....mel

Mel, thanks for the heads up on the fakes, I knew about the dvds and cds but not about the others.

I'd be very leery of the fact that there is no claim of certification & it is being sold admittedly as of an "uncertain origin & taxonmy" Anything like that being sold legitimately would have to have some sort of a verifyable certification to back it up & drive the selling price for it's "true" value as a collectible. Extremely few "discoveries" of this nature would likely go unstudied by independant researchers. After they've all paid you to study it & agreed to share their findings with you, THEN you sell it! No brainer!!

OK here is the thing- Look at the sizes of those "eggs" notice how they are all different sizes (especially easy to see in the second offer) now the thing is that animals do lay eggs of different sizes- but there is not that much variency- they claim to collect but don't know what it is- Fraid not- not with the supposed quality they are touting- Nope very rare that fossil of that caliber would be priviatly collected- and removed from the country of origin LEGALLY! Sorry but to me it looks like simple calcium nodules-

Alice: I agree with stefan. Not eggs in that pic. Probably some kind of clacite/travertine formation from a cave....mel

But don't you think it was most generous of them to include the "free wood stand" with it? Wait a minute - is the stand really made of wood? Pebbles

I fully agree w/ you all, especially LCARS. If I found anything remotely that "cool" I'd have the thing studied and catalogued. Heck, if it's that rare, it'd be named after you. I would NEVER put anything on EBAY unless I knew EXACTLY what it was and where it came from. Very interesting indeed.

Why can't one of us figure something a Chinese person would want to collect, price it very cheaply, put humongus freight charges on it and run it on "Chinese Ebay and become another Bill Gates. Remember my cut if you come up with an idea. Pete
