In the 1890's the Krupp Brothers of Essen Germany had discovered the value of adding vanadium and uranium to iron in their gun business, but the elements were in short supply, so they sent William Beddig to Colorado where they had reportedly been discovered. He arrived in March and unfortunately the area was snowbound, so he journeyed on to Salt Lake City where on the 26th of March he begged our prospectors to search for them here. Did you notice above where it says Vanadium $4,800/pound? In short order mining district claims were staked on San Rafael Swell. The Temple Mountain. Mining venture for uranium and vanadium began in 1918. Mainly radium was sought to be shipped to Madam Curie. emerycountyarchives.blogspot.com/2011/04/temple-mountain-and-madame-curie.html
