Our club shop has a Frantom 24” inch saw that has given us years of trouble free cutting. I do not know the history of the saw but it has been in our shop at least 30 years and probable more. We recently cleaned it out after having some slippage of the split-nut assembly that drives the carriage the vice sits on. When we got it cleaned up I noticed the split nut clamp assembly does not look anything like the ones I have seen on other Frantom saws. It looks very modern and much newer than the saw itself. It has replaceable brass inserts for the split nut and a locking handle to close it. Does anyone know what this part is off of and what company may have made it? With more information I am hoping to be able to order new inserts for the split nut. It may even have some adjustments that could be made. The second question concerns the left side of the blade where the cut slab drops on to. I think there should be a shelf here for the cut slab should drop on to. All this saw has is an oil soaked piece of carpet stuffed here for the slab to drop on. Is something missing?

Looks like it might have been repaired with hplapidary split nuts. Nice upgrade.

Should have a tray or a piece of expanded metal on the left side of the blade, unless you really like digging slabs out of the muck.

That's why I love this site!! Less than 24 hours and I have the information I need. Thank You very much! If any one can post a photo of the shelf that is missing I will have one made. We will be back to cutting rocks in no time.

The two Frantom Slab Saws I've had both had a Masonite shelf on the left side of the blade with holes drilled in it All the Frantoms I had was setup like this as well. 1/4" masonite peg board.

I like ½” galvanized hardware cloth, similar to Tony’s expanded metal.
Easy to cut and fit, drains well and has some give to it.
