I found a few pieces of a dark-brown-red rock near Valley of Fire, NV that looks kind of looks like a conglomerate but contains quite a few dark red-brown crystals/clasts that look to have definite structure - edges facets ( 5 sided? ). These crystals are not rounded like I would expect if conglomerate. So, pretty sure it's some sort of conglomerate but what could those clasts be?? Any idea? Thanks so much! Color: dark red/brown Hardness: The clasts cannot be scratched with knife. Specific Gravity: 3.09 Streak: none Magnetic attraction: None pic1pic2pic3pic4pic5

It looks to me like the quartz/magnetite growing out of silica like that found at Holt Canyon in Washington County, Utah. The first image does resemble the color of the clasts but yours seem to be more cubic in shape. You could be right but wouldn't magnetite exhibit some minor attraction to a magnet? Thanks for your input!

What you have is a piece of Nevada pudding stone. There is a lot of it by Ute, right next to the Valley of Fire. Here is a cut slab I made. The somewhat squarish clast is most likely desert varnished feldspar, which is very common all around here in Southern Nevada.

This Nevada Puddingstone is pretty darn hard. Do you guys think it could be tumbled? I don't have much and I'd have to break it up for my tumbler - what rocks could I throw in with it or should I try it solo ( just some ceramics to fill barrel ). Thanks

Cutting the pieces I have, the hardness seems to be fairly consistent.
There is a lot of it out there if you are close to the area.
