How do you dress you tile saw blade (or other types of lapidary saw blades)? With bricks, dressing stone, AO grinding wheel? Thanks for the help!

ashley I run an SiC dressing stick slowly through the blade. Going slow is best and it should be run through several times. It takes off the metal that gets shoved over the diamonds. If that doesnāt improve things, I take the blade off the saw and peen the edge with an old flat bastard cut steel file. I think Highland Park lapidary has a YouTube video on how to do this. I like to take the blade off the saw so no damage is done to the bearings. I hope that helps.

The Brick method only works if you have a fire rated brick, regular bricks are basically made of mud and will not sharpen your blade, fire rated bricks are usually made of Silica and Alumina Oxide which will act as a sharpening agent.
An old grinding wheel works good, just cut some pieces off of it and use them.

I've just used a regular red brick...and wasn't really seeing much of a difference! LOL - This explains why!

I "peen" with a hammer on the edge of a table, goal is to make the edge of the blade wider than the blade immediately behind it so the blade doesn't act like a wedge and bind up as it's forced into the rock. I call it swaging.

How do you dress you tile saw blade (or other types of lapidary saw blades)? With bricks, dressing stone, AO grinding wheel? Thanks for the help! For general purpose work throughout the summer, it's jeans and a t-shirt. Once fall hits, I have to switch the blade over to flannel. If it's an expensive rock I'm going to be cutting, I shoot for a suit and tie...maybe just a Cardigan sweater (the Mr. Rogers style). However, once the blade has run its course, there's a small ceremony of remembrance and I go with a tuxedo to lay it to rest with the other worn-out blades.

Typical conversation at our house: Me hollering to my wife in the other room: "I have to get dressed up for this thing? Wife: "Yes!" Me: "Like clean t-shirt dressed up?" Wife: "NO! Like button-down shirt dressed up!" Me: "Ok!" (PAUSE) Wife: "...and not FLANNEL!" Me muttering under my breath: "Damnit!"
