$203 to ship the two boxes UPS ground.
Hopefully the seller, being a company, gets a discount.
ouch ...

bwhahahaha.... "where are you going to put them?" indeed! One box is 63 pounds and the taller one is 77 pounds. Will measure them to figure out what the UPS shipping was. Kinda thinking it was a bit more than the $13.53 that I was charged. I almost feel bad now.
UPS guy was NOT happy. (green ruler = 12")
More later, doubt I will get around to opening the boxes today - that's not on my list.

Don't back out on me now! Cool season would be better. I can sweat just plenty right here!
One of the (many) things I remember from when when we went before - When walking the shoreline, the rocks in the water and near shore were covered with something like algae. Probably from sewage, but that's beside the point.
We talked about how difficult shallow water / near shore collecting was because of this. Each rock must be hammer chipped to see what is inside. Talked about a pressure washer, but not so sure that is a reasonable attempt at a solution.
The gravel pits would be the best possible collecting location, but that's a long drive to get turned away from them. We still have that spot just a little further north of where you last collected there after I had gone home. I almost made it that far and you got even closer. One fence away from what I bet is the best spot down in that area we were working. Probably a killer spot as it is private land that one would have to sneak in. The round top butte down the hill from Fernando's (was that his name?) gravel pit would be a must to hit again, as would be that private land on the south side where I jumped the fence.
Bet we left a few rocks there from the last trip!
When does deer season start? We were close to it when there in October...

Kinda figured there would be more comments on the saw. That is quite the beast. Don't like the vise set up though.
Rocks in tumbler for a year and a half = all good. Played this game enough to know what's going on in that barrel without even checking. Figured it was a fun experiment. Folks often ask if you just let a barrel run long enough what is the result from the grit breaking down. I have no hope that the rocks are taking a polish, but I bet they went through all the other grit steps in one long run. Already shaped when I last checked 'em. Will report on findings - someday.
I know when I left a load to run in polish for a year that they are the shiniest rocks I ever tumbled.

Too cool and green for you up there in the mountains of north Georgia?
Figure a trip to Zapata for a couple weeks in July will get you back to last year's pants size?
Maybe round up a few Japanese to bayonet anyone that starts dragging @ss in the south Texas heat?
I could stand to sweat off 2 or 3 pounds, you know I'm in! (except the last week in August when wife unit goes on vacation)
Gotta die from something... might as well be collecting rocks in Texas.

LOL that monster tumbler someday build is so far down the road that I don't think we even reside in the same galaxy. I have 3 barrels running now (out of what - 15 or more tumblers?) and I don't even check them anymore. One barrel has not been checked/opened since February of last year. Seriously, 17 months! Don't think I've even oiled the motor. Now you just need a monster tumbler to run 'em all at once. Of course you'll need to hide that puppy from your wife too. Just can't pass up a good deal steal. There was a Make Offer on the listing, When that option is there I almost always make an offer as having that indicates that the seller will take something less than the Ask. NO way I was going to play that game here. Seller might have realized what the shipping cost entered was and changed that. Part of the reason that I hit the Buy It Now was my curiosity on how they will be shipped and the actual cost to do so. Figure there is no way shipping could possibly be under 50 bucks. Probably be more. Figure UPS or FedEx and two boxes. Will know in a week or so I guess. Will report back. Probably keep the best barrels and Craigslist the rest of them. Sell 10 for $40 ea and I've made a profit and have 6 free barrels. No way I'm shipping them just to make a couple bucks. ETA: oh, told the wife unit. Got the eyeroll and "where are you going to put them?"

Possibly someone was emptying an aquarium? Were the rocks that clean when you found them, aquarium rocks would probably have some algae on 'em. Smell like fish poop? Yup, free rocks are good rocks!

This will teach me from spending a slow Sunday morning on eBay. www.ebay.com/itm/Tumbler-Barrels/223568884514?hash=item340dbe7322:g:vmUAAOSwNINdFipeSure don't need them, but at 20 bucks each and with $13.52 for shipping the whole lot... what the hell, why not.
Same size as the Thumler's 15lb barrels
Figure I'll need some new wing nuts and probably some lid gaskets. Hope the wife unit is not home when they arrive!
If you're bored, check out this eBay 24" saw listing. Interesting description write up.

Which polish did you use? I've had outstanding results using tin oxide for obsidian. AO just didn't give the same shine - for me.

Be aware, Iron Out (Home Depot etc) makes fumes that will knock a buzzard off a poop wagon - and ain't good for you either!
If you use it, do so OUTSIDE. Also, works better in warm water. So place the bucket in the sun. Make SURE it is no where kids or pets can get near it.

captbob Good looking truck, are those tires rated for gators? Never run over a gator! Snowbirds and anyone else from north of the Mason-Dixon line are fair game though.

jamesp Good idea! ALL vehicles should have a good bumper with the option for a winching bumper. I'd also like to see running boards again. I agree! Can't believe that our Georgiaboy doesn't have running boards to knock the dirt off his boots! My same year Tundra. No 4 wheel drive... but I live in FLORIDA. We don't have hills or mountains!

That works! You need to add a couple lights now as you lost the two nice -traveling down a dark road- lights that were in the original bumper.
Let me know if you find a nice replacement for the original headlights, mine get that darn fogged up look to them too. Why could't they leave well enough alone instead of making headlights out of that plastic that never stays clear?

Okay, that is SUCH cool scenery - HOT, but still cool!
I could spend time there and not bring home a single rock and still consider seeing all that a GOOD DAY.
I now officially hate everyone that lives anywhere that has better than flat sand beaches for rockhounding.
Thank you for sharing all those pictures!
Florida sucks!
