What do you have that is breaking?
I have all Thumler's tumblers (maybe 15 of them?) and have never had any problems. - other than going through a lot of belts on the Model B units from running loads too heavy. I use the 12 and 15 pound models, can't comment on the 3 pound machines.

I found a whole set of them in the junkyard along with the base vibrator. He wanted $100 for the whole rig. system not cheap when new. Just pour in the bulk at top and it separates it to sizes down the line. You can get them cheaper in plastic. Very good. I just thought the old ones were kinda cool. Maybe something your artsy wife would like.

Don/Jakesrocks is a serious snipe artist! LOL. How do I make his name how and notify him to look at this thread? Put an @ before the username @ (no space) jakesrocks = jakesrocks when you type it all together.

That chunk of petrified palm took a bit of thought as to how high I wanted to go on it. With shipping tacked on it was over 15 bucks a pound which seemed kinda steep to me for pet. palm. But, I view it as a display specimen. Want to face polish it and think it will be quite attractive then. Petrified palm and palm root are among my daily searches, and a piece of that quality doesn't come along very often. Sometimes ya just gotta say what the heck and go for it.

Sometimes just for the fun of it! So this morning, I had an auction for a nice chunk of petrified palm wood on my eBay watch list coming to a close. No biggie, I have LOTS of stuff on my watch list. Decided the price was still within my comfort zone, so I set the timer and waited for the final countdown. Hit it and won with a one second snipe. One second snipes are normal for me... offer.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=232586456703&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565Well, I had another rock on my watch list from the same seller ending a couple hours later. I don't like bidding early, as it leaves your bid hanging out there for others to shoot at. But, I needed to go to the mall to get Christmas cards. Went to the mall, but thinking about this 2nd rock. Made it home less than a minute before the auction ended. Hurried inside, shut off the alarm, and headed to the computer. Had to log in to eBay and go to watch list. Item had 15 seconds left. *snicker* Zero second snipe - www.ebay.com/bfl/viewbids/232587101682?item=232587101682&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565Now, the good part. Notice the 2nd place bidder on both auctions. Wonder how far that moved me up on Santa's Naughty List. Hope I get rocks in my Christmas stocking! I do feel bad - in that I had stopped buying rocks recently so that my mail carrier wouldn't have to deal with them during the Christmas delivery rush. Guess I'm gonna have to make it up to her. ETA: tried to fix links to go to bid page, couldn't make that happen. doody...

Thanks all. The corals, as I said, are a piece of cake to tumble. I ran them in coarse 60/90 for awhile to remove a layer or two, a month in AO 80 and then a 2 months in polish. Probably over ran the polish stage, but it doesn't hurt anything to just let 'em run. Corals can be a bitch with the ceramics getting stuck in them! Didn't take much time watching them, it would have driven me nuts wondering when to pull each piece... should it run longer? Very much like snakeskin agates. Hard to say what the sweet spot is for each piece. The big Rio I just ran with ceramic media. It was too big to add other rocks to the barrel. Figured that if I used rocks for filler that they might jam against the big 'un and stop it from moving in the barrel. It's that big that there was little room left on the sides in a 15 lb barrel.Took forever just using ceramics. Went the first 5 months with no noticeable change then bam it was ready to move on. Ran 4 months just in polish stage. Unimpressed with polish. Needed smalls (rocks) in that run I believe. Thinkin' that ceramics alone didn't give me enough impacting with the rock to lay down a nice shiny polish. Figure that when I get a 40 lb tumbler I will do another polish run on it to see if I can get a wet shine on it. Just because. A 40 pounder would allow me to tumbler bigger corals too. Something I want to do. - Hey Santa!! Have another (red) Rio somewhat under that size running now. Smaller, although 5+ pounds. Small enough though that I could add some small rocks to the mix. Been running since last May - still in 80 grit. Think it will be much nicer than this big one. Prettier rock anyway. Sure I could have done it faster, but I only check on it every month or so. Keep pulling the smalls to move on and adding new smalls. Time will tell ... Que Sera, Sera aside: this is a local craigslist ad tampa.craigslist.org/hil/for/d/commercial-rock-tumblers/6397201544.htmlthinking about picking a couple of these up. Then i would just need to buy the 40 lb barrels. Freakin' things are 3 feet long each. Take up a lot of room. Wife will LOVE them!

Any way you could use an expansion plug for your ends? Or a cleanout cap/plug or qwik cap?

off topic - why doesn't Lot-O make a bigger unit? I just realized that you are probably talking about a Lot-O that will take larger stones. That would be useful. The hole in in the barrel is only 2.25 inches in diameter. yup, bigger for larger rocks. I would have bought one by now, but I primarily like to tumble much larger rocks than the norm. Be nice to be able to get that Lot-O shine with a quickness on fist sized and larger rocks. I'd buy a couple of them in a heartbeat if bigger rocks could run in them.
