Another great cab show for sure!
But I'm curious... now that you are a master cab maker, what do you do with them? Maybe you have said, if so I missed it.

I'm going to throw out a wild guess and say that that piece has a Willow Creek look. kinda sorta?
May be off by a mile and hopefully someone here has seen that material before and can give you a better answer than just a guess.

Run your rocks another week in the zinc oxide you have, and see if that helps. Couldn't hurt anything.

Oh, okay. Thanks for the link.
I will start by saying that Scottish agates ought to take a fine shine - from those that I have seen posted here. I forget the members name, Ian maybe?, and he has posted some lovely Scottish agates. Maybe someone can recall and link a thread or two of his agate pictures.
My first suggestion would be changing your polish medium. An aluminum oxide AO is what you might want to be looking for. Tin oxide or cerium oxide are alternatives but probably more costly than AO.
Secondly, please disregard most everything you read in a beginners instruction manual. You may find that run times for each step may need to be MUCH longer than a few days to a week per step.
Depends on what final results you are looking for, but quality tumbled rocks take time - and patience! Your polish step run of 3 days just isn't long enough, even with the different polishes mentioned above.
Good luck and keep at it. Practice makes perfect!

First off, welcome to the forum.
What type of rocks are you tumbling? Many rocks will NEVER take a shine and the best possible outcome is a matte finish. Depends on the type of rock.
I'm not sure what a "beach tumbling machine" is. Is that a brand name?
Zinc Oxide for polish? You sure about that?
Amazing that you are getting any results as far as shaping and smoothness with these extremely short run times and in such small barrels. Are you tumbling already rounded river or beach rocks?
We need more information on what you are tumbling please.

AO prepolish is AO500 I don't see any downside to going that route other than adding time to the tumble. Thinkin' it should help the final outcome for the rocks and be worth the time.
Allow the 500 SiC to run long enough to do its job!

Hey Billy, I have a milk crate of old stock mozarkite with most of the chunks having shades of pinks and reds. Colors and patters similar to your rocks here.
Just went out back and looked at my crate full and while the lizard sitting on them didn't appreciate being disturbed, I'd be all good going with with this ID on your rocks pictured.

okay... ( hope ya saw this coming!) How is she qualified to do this grading?
Sounds like trying to judge the Miss Universe pageant or pick the nicest car at a car show. Judging/grading is highly subjective. Which is nicer, the 72 'Cuda or the 68 Camaro? Also if she comes up with her own grading system, what does that mean? Is it going to be accepted by others?
Beauty, I've heard, is in the eye of the beholder. You call her "an authoritarian source". How so, I didn't see anything on the website other than "I have a research background in physics and engineering." I also have the internet and "research" stuff every day! - send me money! I may appreciate seeing pictures of higher quality Ocean Jasper, (or ANY other nice rocks) and while I understand she may be your friend/acquaintance, I don't know her from Eve and would, hopefully understandably, be a little dubious of ........ heck of everything! I wish her well in her endeavor, and as I said will enjoy the OJ photos, but the Donations button just - TO ME - makes the whole thing "questionable" (to be nice). Bottom line is she is still asking for money to support HER hobby/passion/quest.
The website could have just as easily been dedicated to old Coke bottles or Star Wars action figures. In this day and age of people wanting everything for free - e.g. "other people can pay for my (fill in the blank)" - the similitude to a sketchy Go Fund Me page story kinda negates the good intentions and cheapens her site.
MY opinion just sayin' I'm done!

No offense meant, but maybe some sarcasm intended. How is this a non profit? She is taking donations uh... to buy rocks? Wish I had thought of this! Send me money and I'll buy rocks to "preserve" them and post some pictures on a website I created. Some nice pictures of OJ there, but this seems like maybe it should be more of an Ocean Jasper blog.
The Paypal "Donate" button to support her hobby/passion/quest seems a tad questionable - to me. Am I missing something here? signed: cynical old rock guy
