Yeah, Amy, I put some in when I started stage 3. But then the motor went out on me! Now I'm waiting for a replacement to come. My buddy found one for about $50 ,we think will do well, should get it next weekend. Sure beats 120 bucks + shipping from Covington for just a motor!

Alright! I gave one of my buddies the motor at our fly in last weekend and he took it to a few shops around Macon,Ga. He found me an exact match for the motor EXCEPT the shaft is 5/16 instead of 1/4 for around 50 bucks. He is going to see if he can drill out the pulley to fit without damaging it before he gets the motor. I told him to go ahead and get it and I could have a pulley made at work. Even if I have to make it SLIGHTLY larger in dia. it won't hurt. Hopefully I'll be tumbling again in a week or so!

OK it's done! The motor I mean! Started smoking and got REALLY hot. Guess it was just it's time. So....everything is cleaned up and put away until I can come up with some $$ for a replacement. Looked at four or five places and cannot find the right mount spacing or shaft dia. I might have to get the one from Covington $120 + shipping. OUCH! I could almost get 2 lortone tumblers for that!

Well it quit on me again! But I fiddled with it a little more and it is running. I reckon I need to go ahead and find another motor before I get stuck with a load in it that is one big hard mess.

No pics this round. I had a fly in I was at all weekend. We flew planes from sun up to about 1 or 2 am Fri and Sat!!! What a ball! We also cooked about 40# of meat in those 2 days! Steak, sausage, chicken, ribs, chicken wings, etc.
I'll take pics when they come out after this go round! I promise!

GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!! I went out and took the motor off and inspected it. There was some kinda sticky tar like stuff around the shaft behind the pulley. I scraped it off with a small screw driver and turned the shaft a little. It was stiff but not locked up! It did not smell like a motor typically smells when it is ruined....it really did not smell at all! So,....I put a few drops of 3 in 1 Oil on it and turned it by hand and it seemed to free up a lil. I let it set for about 15 min., came back and put a lil more oil on it and it really freed up! I turned it on and it spun faster than it ever has since I've had it!
AND she is now running loaded on the third stage as I type! Maybe there was nothing wrong with it to start with except for that sticky residue on it!
Yee Haw! We're back to tumbling!!! ;D ;D ;D

Well stage 2 is done! And so is the tumbler motor!!! Doug told me it was pretty old. I know it wasn't overloaded. I had a RC Event at my local flying field this weekend and when I got home I checked out in the shop and the tumbler was just sitting there buzzing! I got some buddys looking for a motor for it. They are HVAC technicians and see a LOT of motors that size. They just need to find the same rpm and htz. ratings. I'll give them a few weeks. If they don't find one by then I'll just have to buy one from Covington or something. It sure don't take long for the slurry to start setting like concrete! It could not have sat for more than 24 hrs, but it took me a good while to get it all cleaned up!

Could the Mystery Stone be Obsidian? I've got a few that have not been tumbled that look black til you hold them up to the light. Then they are a smoky black/deep brown. Kinda looks the same as I have.

OK! 2 weeks in the rough grit has the Rose Quartz looking NICE! Giving them a lil soak in some laundry detergent just to make sure ALL the grit comes off. Gonna rinse the Rose and the barrel really well in a minute. Then, off to stage 2!!! ;D ..........................

Yup you'd better make sure it is Packaged Well!!!!!!! I worked for the USPS for about 6 yrs. as a Mailhandler (loading and unloading semi trailers.) A slab at the bottom of a 70 lb. bag of mail won't stand a chance if not WELL Packed. USPS does not even think about anything breakable being in the regular bags. Express Mail or Priority Mail is treated a good bit better but even it gets tossed around a bit. The mail HAS to move and there is no way to move it all without tossing it around. Just my 2 cents on shipping from a "been there done that" perspective.

Thanks Condor! I just cleaned it out after the first week and they are coming along! Going outta town for the weekend so I did not want it running with nobody here. Will recharge and run another week in rough grit just to be sure they are good and smooth. Got some pics to post of the first weeks results, just wish I'd taken before pics! I'll post them after we get back home. One thing is for sure......we gotta have more tumblers!!!!
