After 14 hours of private instruction I can proudly present my very first silver setting! I used my own cab of Mexican Royal Velvet Obsidian for this and learned very quickly how important a cab is to successful bezel setting. For a long time I have made my cabs to smithing standards with a slight bezel angle, flat back and even girdle. I never knew why this was so important but I did it because my commissions asked me to. Now I know why it's so important!!!! This is certainly not by any means perfect but it is something that I will wear and keep forever! There is nothing as great as expanding knowledge and skills!!!!!! Can't wait to do my 2nd!

I haven't been around much the last few months due to life getting extremely busy but.... I just had to share this! My hubby and I own a window cleaning company and for my birthday, my husband Patrick arranged a trade with one of my biggest mentors, Michael Hoover. He cleaned the windows on Michael's house and his daughter's house in exchange for a full day of one on one private instruction on knife making and jade polishing secrets using Nova wheels. My knife took me 5 hours to complete and then we spent a little over an hour polishing several different varieties of BC Jade. I learned so much, especially regarding what NOT to do with jade!!!!! Upon leaving, he sent me home with 10lbs of A to AAA grade varieties of Jade slabs. Also several slabs of Willow Creek. It was the best day ever and today I am ordering the few pieces of small tools that I don't have so that I can continue making knives at home! This is a Case knife with A grade Gem Boulder Creek Nephrite, B.C. Thanks for taking some of your time to look at some of mine!!!

Gorgeous slabs! From what I have heard this material is completely mined out and was only found in one location in indonisia as an accident mining for sulfur! Pricey stuff!!

John,
I'm not a mechanic at all but my dad builds and installs large woodworking warehouse production machinery. He stops by often and does a quick once over on my equipment. One thing he told me is to always keep your eye on the pulley for any type of wobble. As they get older they get worn down and even if there is a slight wobble it will eventually ruin the bearing. He found that on mine and replaced the pulley for $5.00 and I was amazed because the whole sound of the saw changed and the pulley wobble completely disappeared. My bearing is still good but changing the pulley will keep it that way for the next several years. I'm not sure if anything like that could be happening to your saw but just thought I would throw that out there because I never thought about taking the pulley off and inspecting it!

How are you going to jam that beauty into your tumbler? Are you doing it on a grinder? Are you cutting it? Rob, I'm just polishing only, no cutting or grinding out crevices, Bruce wants little to no material loss. It barely fits through the opening on my Lot-O so I will fill the barrel completely full of ceramics and run this piece by itself. I might need to do a couple runs on 220 though to completely smooth out any jagged edges.

A local club member came to see me today and asked me to polish this obsidian for him. In trade, I can pick out rocks from his newly acquired estate purchase that this rock came out of. I am praying that there are more of these old stock Mexican Rainbow obsidian in his 30 buckets of mixed rock. I seriously almost fainted when spraying this stone with a water bottle. Neon colors exploded and I've never seen rainbow like this before....... EVER!!!!!
