Oh, Man! Those are beauties! Love the handles esp on the opalite which is my favorite. Amazing! Son Of BeachThose are awesome Rick. I agree with Tela, the handle on the opalite and the opalite itself are killer. That last one looks like it has the right balance and belongs in someones collection Is the blade held solely by the wrapping or do you swell the wood to get it to fit, dunno if that's the right term or method....
Chad, I notch out the handle using a small hacksaw. I use a two-part epoxy with a liberal amount of cedar sawdust to set the knife blade and fill up any spots that need it. When it's all set up I totally clean and sand where the blade and wood are joined together then wrap with artificial sinew. I want my knife to last and not come apart. I've had a few people that spent a lot of money on knives show them to me that were disapointed that the blade was coming loose. That's what can happen if they use real sinew and indian epoxy (bees wax, tree resin, plant material/small fibers and charcoal). As our friend Ed mohs once said "dop them up". Tela, my earlier photos were shot at an angle and didn't show accurate proportions so here's a better shot of the opalite and cedar knife. It is presold to a very good friend of mine here in Columbia who owns the only rock shop in our area. I showed him an opalite point a few years ago and he had to have it. I traded that point to him for 4-5 bifurcated authentic ones that he had bought in a collection. After a few years in his office, that point sprouted wings and flew away. He is going to take better care of his opalite knife. jasoninsd - "they will cut"

Didn't have a camera with me so this is not my photo. At least four times in the past month or so at the campground we are in along the SC coast an eastern diamondback rattlesnake has been spotted late in the afternoon hunting along the edge of the woods and the mowed grass behind several camp sites. I've seen one twice and it looks to be over five feet long. Be careful out there.

Those look almost like dendrites, but I'm not too sure they are. They must be doo-drites!

Here's a recipe for apricot/habanero jam. I call it Atomic Apricot. I actually have friends who beg me for it. 2 quarts of apricot puree. Leave the skin on and just pulp it any way that's convenient. 5 cups sugar. 3 level tablespoons of minced habanero peppers. I include the seeds and pith which provides most of the heat. Two large habaneros will usually make this amount and it seems to be the right amount of zap for most people. Personally, I prefer 5 tablespoons but that's a bit much for many folks. 1/4 cup lemon juice. 1 box of regular pectin. Follow basic canning procedure by combining in a pot and bring to a rolling boil for several minutes. Ladle into jars and put them into a big boiling pot of water for five minutes. Remove and let them cool undisturbed for a day. This stuff works as a nice glaze for meats too. Make sure to use stainless steel cookware as this will eat up copper, aluminum and other metals.

Your creations? I really need to purchase some points from you. I was emailing photos back and forth with a good friend in NC and that is one of the photos I sent to him of some smaller points I made. He will be demonstrating the making of primitive cordage next week at a camp in NC on Eustace Conway's property (One of TV's Mountain Men). Once a year he demonstrates flint knapping there and has asked me to drive up there a couple times but I haven't so far.

Wife made this the other night and it was great. She changed it around a little by adding mushrooms and onions. She used a packet of dry Hidden Valley Ranch dressing.
Slow Cooker Ranch Pork Chops (Author: Sarah Olson)
Easily make delicious ranch-flavored pork chops using cream of chicken soup combined with a packet of ranch dressing, for finger-licking good chops!
Prep Time: 5 minutes Cook Time: 5 hours Total Time: 5 hours 5 minutes Servings: 6
Equipment: Slow Cooker- 6 quart or larger
Ingredients: 2 lbs. pork chops center cut 21 oz. cream of chicken soup (two 10.5 oz. cans) do not add water. 1 oz. ranch seasoning packet fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions: In a small bowl, whisk together the cream of chicken soup and ranch seasoning packet, set aside. Add the pork chops in a single layer to the slow cooker, pour the soup mixture over the pork chops and spread evenly. Cover and cook on HIGH for 3-4 hours or LOW for 4-5 hours.
Remove the pork chops from the slow cooker and mix the sauce well. Serve the pork chops with the sauce and garnish with parsley. Enjoy!
Notes Serve with mashed potatoes or rice. Cream of mushroom soup can be used in place of cream of chicken. If the sauce is too thick, whisk in 3-4 tablespoons of hot chicken stock or water. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days in an airtight container
