Enjoy life by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr Its been a year, since I got the opportunity to work on this long-term project, and rewards have come in countless ways. In October last year, I first arrived at this sight Long way inside by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr Slowly, I/we changed things Long way by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr Just like the place itself, there is no hurry, and eventually it became habitable and a second home away from home,.... flag by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr Cant imagine a better setting for breakfast or dinners. Quiet, surrounded by nature, and away from daily distractions and gadgets. Night falls quickly and early here in the tropics, so bed-time at 7:30 to 8pm is the norm when without companions (besides the dogs of course). Something simply unthinkable back down at home. With ten hour naps, while windows and doors are open, its become a weekly source of physical exercise followed by good food, clean untreated water and undisturbed sleep. early night by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr Far from finished, right now, I'm producing concrete blocks to form a center core for a water-tank (collecting water from the roof) start Watertank by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr So, carrying 50 to 70 pounds of things up, for 2 to 2.5 hours, continues and ensues that one treasures everything that one has availeable once up there. Hiding rubble and other things that I did not wanted to carry down, I created a flowerbed. Actually, just dug up some shrubs to replant here, put in some chilli as well as mint, just yesterday. Will see if they survive in the coming weeks. seats by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr Its not for everyone, temperatures and the walk itself can be a bit much for some. Had visitors from Austria last month, and while he is a fireman, and should be in good shape.......... Any respite and water-source was highly valued.... Cooling down by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr But regardless, to me, the physical workout, and creating something with your hand for a change outweigh any perceived burden that a project like this brings with it. AND picture opportunities are an added plus. This place is called "Sunset Peak" Sunset September by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr and is an important source of water for the villages down below Hong KongHideaway by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr I find "Sunrises" most mesmerizing Augut sunrise 1 by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr Late August Sunrise Hong Kong by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr Rare occurance by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr Who could argue against the sight of fields in shimmering silver and white Silver and white by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr AND on very rare occasions getting images like this...... bpe August 29 2017 by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr Or, just 2 days ago, getting this picture looking like one is at impossible places..... Strathosphere by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr So, the journey continues, and with any luck the pictures will improve. Awaiting delivery of binoculars and another with just one sight; both with attachments for the phone. That should change perspective and clarity of pictures. Life is good, and every day a new blessing when one can ignore/avoid daily news (I have stopped reading Newspapers and watching TV quite some time ago). Best regards, Kurt

Love the painted agate. We don't see nearly enough of that type of craft on here.

Whaaaa, no one of the guys here wears their own goodies? ? Wedding-ring and a pendant are a must. I wear everything I make whenever possible. For me that's the point of it. Make things to wear! Hence the carving side of things. For cabs I would have to learn how to set them. I like the bone as is, but personally would not cover the face of the stone.

Thank you all,..... You complimented the owls camouflage ability to blend into the surroundings very well. Almost couldnt see it. I like this carving a lot. Yeah, has the habit till its completely done. Might just about pick it up again and try again.... How much did you have to pay the lizard to pose for you? Took only about 30 shots to get that one. He kept trying to get away..........

Do you use water with the diamond burs and drills etc? Dipping, as I sit outside. No steady stream.

Nahh, its not that hard. But holds edges better than most materials.
Got lucky with the colour distribution. Was worried about the head being invisible, but as it turns out, the area of the head is a much brighter colour than the surrounding area, so its just fine.

A few years ago, jamesp send me some of his fabulous material, and now, finally the colour works perfectly for one of the FB challenges. One slabette, two projects,.... Florida Coral by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr Resulting in the "Cut-Off" Florida coral by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr And just in time for Halloween Florida Coral by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr While searching for material for eyes to use on the bat, got sidetracked and started a free-form opal and redid n old misshapen project in Crown of Silver. Hard to compete with that fabulous Nipomo. Was looking for something to use as eyes on another project, and found a misshapen project from a few years ago. As it happens, that allows me to produce an entry for this month. A bit of reshaping, and it resembles a cab. messy crown of silver by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr Forgot just how messy Crown of Silver is to work. Never had material comparable to patterns that made this material popular. Bought it mostly for carving.... Crown of Silver by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr Things kept falling away, so a bit messy Crown of Silver by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr Will try to improve further, and if I can get better picture, will post it here later. Best regards Kurt

Welcome from Tennessee!!!! Beautiful work with those stones! Kurt kkin Hong Kong also does great carvings. (cheers)BUT,.... Michael is a world-class carver with a penchant for flawless execution and finish. I'm nowhere close for my pieces to withstand critical examination.

Never been one for fashion-statements or big hairdos.... Recovered some pics on my trip home two years ago that I had long forgotten about.... At about 2or3 years of age, I do remember that I had Lederhosen like that, that could stand on their own at any time of the year. DSCN6434 by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr Confirmation with my brother DSCN6480 by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr But the biggest surprise came with seeing the similarities having my fathers picture next to mine and my son at the age of 18.... 3 gen 18 by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr No rebels over here, simple tastes nothing to far out of the norm.....

Nice work as always.
As for the stichite: do you stabilize? I had some a few years ago, polished nicely, but noticed that all the shine was gone a few months later.

Have not been here in quite some time. Had a busy summer, and over the last month, a lot of time was taken up planing for the first time ever visit of a relative from my Austrian side here in Hong Kong. and a BBQ for nearly 20 people, up at the cabin. All done now. Was nice, but way to stressful to do regularly. All said, I still found some time in between to tinker with some stones. Continued to work on some breakaway from the slag received from England..... twosided breakaway Slag by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr breakaway Slag by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr And for our monthly challenge: I set out to make a leaf from a stone I found at one of our beaches here; still no idea what it is, but suspect it might be some type of amethrine. Then, thought of it as rather plain, and made a Fire Agate bug and a tiger-eye frog to fill the picture. In the picture, sanded up to 2000 grit paper (still not polished to-date) leaf by Kainzer Kurt, on Flickr Now, there should be more time for stones coming up....... Thanks for looking, remain with best regards, Kurt
