Thank you everyone, long way from done, but who cares once one is able to actually stay there. I think, for as long as I get the right to stay there/use the place, there will always be something to be done. After the basics are done inside, there is still a storeroom to be overhauled, and the outside-walls need fixing too. Chairs would be nice, not planing to buy any, will take the long way round and try to make them myself (that should be interesting . That's a lot of improvement considering everything has to be hand-hauled. I like the nice bright color, brightens the interior during the day. Yep, it is. Yesterday, the weather was miserable as the location was exactly at the level the clouds passing north, so, I kept both windows shut (shutters, as no actual window installed yet) and only the door open. That was more than enough to keep tinkering the whole day without problems.

Slowly getting there, hope to finish painting tomorrow, then kitchen and mainroom will be basically done. As said, I had to build sink and any form of workingspace in the kitchen. So here is what I managed Does look far from perfect, sink still needs to be finished and concrete surface to be sanded and polished, but looks workable. Main room With fold-down table in final size Now its mostly completing some shelves (4 done and 4 to go), and a secondary bed/storage unit (under the original bed-space to be started tomorrow). As it turns out, while the rough repairs where tricky (for me) they where cheap. Now the finishing is easy, but getting pricey. The paint (wall, wood, metal) alone costs more than everything else combined thus far.

I admire your patience, Kurt. I don't think I could work anything by hand like that... Beautiful works! I got time. I dont drive, so waiting in line somewhere or being on public transport allows me to do something other than everyone else around with their phones. I don't like to play video-games, and hence have not joined the Zombie-club. I don't read newspapers either anymore since about 3 years, as I'm fed up with all that bad news, and not willing to start every day with that. Last but not least, my grandmothers words are still ringing in my ears.... She always kept us busy with her "idle hands are up to no good!" statement. So as long as she was within sight, we always kept busy to avoid extra chores......

Hi there. Have not posted in quite a while as I keep rather busy renovating a cottage up on a mountain here on the island. Plus obligations at work, keep me from time on the machine too. So I got only time really on the run with sandpaper, and that means mostly working with Fire Agate. Missed a dateline for Valentine with this one (big heart is an unknown stone that I found hiking in the Austrian Alps two years ago (some type of rhyolite I suspect), with Topaz and Fire agate nearly ready to be used as insets) A recent Fire Agate that awaits prolonged work with bamboo-sticks to finish up And just about to finish, the Fire Agate for the above in close-up. And a new rather interesting piece on the table right now awaiting further cleanup and then carving in the back. Thanks for looking, Kurt

Ahh hearts are in fashion this month...... And nice efforts on both accounts. Looking forward to finished pieces. Just used mine for another contest. So a regular cab will have to do this time round. One of my favorite materials to work with. Chinese Pietersite that I abused years ago. Last in my pile and finally finished in a useful way. First pic is from about 6 years ago..... And reworked today Thanks for looking, Kurt

Beautiful, stones and wraps. I love how you find a nice balance between stone and wire. That grape agate took some serious work to get it polished that well.

Congrats Tommy, always nice to see that green moss. There are always so many pictures in it, its hard to find the right layout. Thank you also to everyone for the generous votes for my cab. Its a first, that one of my creations ends up top two. No entry for me this month as the things I do/have done are nowhere close to a cab, but shall be back next month.

Solar my friend you need a simple solsr panel set up for lights and to run a fridge! You can get a Dometic that has a Danfoss compressor for about $300 plus. A 100 watt solar panel and marine battery will do it. Actually; not. Isn't the main-point of having a location like that to leave those conveniences behind for a while? Might talk about it at length, but in the end for me it is. On top of it, looking at another setup that is already in place at another cottage: That thing even if kept simple, would even with your estimate, cost more than most of anything else to repair that place. I'm on a shoestring budget, and right now it looks like I still could end up under that.

I am very impressed with your efforts, it must be satisfying on a primal level. Where is this located? H Yep, it certainly is. Located in Hong Kong (see original post for pics)

Hi there, time for an update as things finally start to improve visibly. Its winter, so weather is holding up nicely, making carrying 30+ kg for 3 hours bearable, and no rain means I can continue going up every weekend. Second shutter is in, so building is secured for the time being. Bigger undertakings are taking shape, most big problems inside to the wall are repaired, Kitchen top with concrete sink and shelves is basically build and needs a fringe of tiles to be completed. Fold-down table is well underway.. Now, its finishing those things, build and anker 5 to six shelves, build maybe also a wall-mounted toolbox, fill in minor cracks, cement-wash the walls, then paint to finish up. And once everything is done, its back to where it all started, on the outside. Staying overnight is no problem, I'm certainly not going to starve. Thus far I'm under budget: 15$ in sand, 30$ in cement, table comes in at a total of less than 30$ in 2 8foot 2x2's, 2 taken apart pallets, and reused and metal-parts. 50$ in tools, 20$ in tiles, and big tickets 80$ metal-sheet for shutters and two shelves, and 35$ for primer and Tourquoise metal/wood-paint. So all in all, just 260$. If my calculations are right, I will need 20-30$ more in Cement, another 15$ of sand, and biggest ticket a good 100$ in paint, and will still have 300$+ for other things that might come along.

Yikes, even though I look at every post I can find and have always done so, as he was one of the first to give me/us advice, I completely left out bobby1. It was he, who drilled us from the beginning, to try and achieve the best possible results.

And though we heckle them from time to time, As I'm not Chinese, I don't mind. And very often, I do completely agree with statements made. I only ever take exception when statements are made that indicate local problems created here. Its just a fact that greed is universal, so no need to single out one nation or a people. This and one other forum has been my way into this hobby. Only because of so many friendly and helpful members, was it possible to get to where I am now. Can't and never will be able to be grateful enough to repay for what has been given to me through RTH. I have many idols here, some have come and gone, others have moved on to rock-heaven, and others yet have left forums largely behind in favor of other platforms (guilty of that myself). Yet I still look forward virtually every day to check in, to see posts by creative minds the like of Fossilman, Bikerrandy (still envy his ability of creating those fab triplet combos, Tommy, rockjunquie, Adan, and of course discourses with gemfella, glennz01 and jack of all trades jamesp, just to name a few.

That is cute, panamark. Did you raise it or take to a place that does that? kk, are you in China? Yep, Hong Kong. Village-setting.

Occasional stray cat dares to defy our dogs. Rat from time to time. And Water-buffalo comes and goes mostly in winter-months when food in the fields is scarce.

Here's my entry - hot off the dop. Green moss agate of unknown origins, reminds me a lot of the winter moss we get in the oak trees here in northern CA. Love the subsurface textures and structures. The clear material surrounding the plumes makes them really stand out.

Nicely done timloco. Quite a few interesting jaspers coming out of Indonesia these days. My favorites are from the group they call Pancawarna.
Bloodstone: have heard about that material so often, yet have to come across material as saturated with red as your fab piece. Super layout, and as usual immaculate workmanship.
