I've been wanting to go to Earnst Quarries for awhile (Sharktooth Hill), near Bakersfield.

I was just looking at it and realized "Hey, this would be a great RTH group trip." Kids would love it, parents would love it . . .

I've never been, but apparently you can find fossilized shark's teeth very easily, and sometimes if one is lucky, a Megalodon tooth.

Looks like there are weekend days in May and June open. After that it gets too hot.

I think it would just be a one day thing, although maybe it could be combined with another adventure up that way?

Any interest?

I don't think they'll take the old boxes anymore - I heard someone say on here on the "postage increase" thread, wherever that is, that they're no longer accepting the old boxes. Your double boxing technique works really well though so we should all be fine. Heck, one could use a thicker box for the inner box, or a tupperware, if one could find them in the right dimensions. I wished there was a way to strap up the inner box good and tight with tape, but I don't think I could have gotten it inside the outer box with the rocks already in it or a lot of tape on it.
