We were able to get out wandering around a little the past few weekends. Just exploring, looks as though spring is starting to happen. Just thought I'd post up some random eastern Nevada pics. Friday, May 10 was the sesquicentennial of the driving of the Golden Spike on the transcontinental railroad up at Promontory, UT. In Ely, NV the Northern Nevada Railroad folks staged a re-enactment with a copper spike.
Then they hooked up both engines and ran them up the canyon.
Later today I'll try to get a few rocks rinsed off and some pictures of them put up. Thanks for looking.

A few more pictures. Found some rocks.
Scott NRG didn't get many rocks. Too busy catching us lunch.
Jax made sure that James didn't stray too far.
Fun trip, great folks.

Wow Russian thanx for the pics. You are fortunate to live there! Thanks, Bill. I wondered why a black Yukon with tinted windows kept driving by yesterday. Guess I'm being investigated for "collusion".
And yeah, we're lucky to live where we do.

Grabbed a few quick pictures. Wanted to do it outside in the sunlight but it clouded up and it is now snowing. Yay! Nothing earth shattering, and when I finish sorting I'm sure some will wind up as yard rocks. Here are a few, though. A few from Saturday.
And some from Sunday.
Thanks for looking.

After a long winter of sloth and indolence it was time to go look for some rocks. South facing slopes are bare and the mud wasn't even too bad. Saturday 3/30 we headed u the road a piece to a spot we've been to before. Found a few rocks. Looking to the south the North facing slopes were less inviting for finding rocks. On Sunday 3/31 we decided to just go for a drive, still exploring the area. Headed South and dropped a few thousand feet in elevation. Transition zone between the Pinyon-Juniper ecosystem and the Mojave. Joshua trees in this area are just starting to blossom.
Obligatory windshield shot.
Stopped to get a picture of the Joshua trees, and Cyndi kicked up a chunk of agate. A minute later I found one. Then we found more agates and
Jaspers. Pretty much ended our sight seeing drive, we decided there were worse things to do than wander around in the desert on the last day of March. I'll get some pictures of what we brought home later. Thanks for looking.

Nice report. That's a neat area, spent a little time there a few years ago.

I haven't done obsidian in quite a while, need to do some more when I get some other stuff caught up. Did it all in rotary. I've never used ceramics at all. For the obsidian I used plastic pellets in every stage after coarse. Those look nice.

RWA3006 Randy, those use one of those little tea candles. Or, better, the little LED battery powered fake candles available at Sleaze Mart and pretty much everywhere now. Russ

Haven't really done any cabs to speak of in almost three years. Figured I'd better see if I remembered how. The answer is almost. This was from a rock I picked up a little west of here.
From a rock I picked up wandering around up by McDermitt. Next three are all from one rock from Wyoming.
Another Wyoming rock.
Leopardskin Jasper. Laguna Lace.
Cyndi found this rock on the side of the road in front of the house last summer.
Thanks for looking.
