You're not going to believe this. Some asshole at my work told me to get the dump trailer drive to the gravel yard(15 minutes away) and haul several loads of scoria to do some road repairs. So like 3 hours later I show back up with a few cool agates and some kind of quartz coated hard rock that I have not yet identified. The funny thing was sending me ha ha. Anyway the chic that runs the loader (lives at the gravel yard)and the pit owner were super cool and invited me back to pick rocks whenever. So I'm hoping I can get enough stuff done today to spend a few hours there tomorrow night digging through the 6" minus 4'' minus whatever it is and finally maybe find the agates that I've been looking for. I didn't have the good sense to add some grit to my under armor duffle bag. But I didn't really need to because halfway there and 10 shit head baggage handlers later there was plenty. I did however learn not to put awesome pieces of wood in a bag full of agate. So my plan to make a knife handle out of petrified wood is going to be a reality soon cause that's about all that is left of the damn thing. Suppose anyone learned not to send a rockhound to haul rocks for road repair . Shame about the wood . Some of the stuff you showed pics of? Not sure if I sent a pic of that piece. I was a 8" branch with a big knot right in the middle. Very nice detailed grains. Looked like it was waiting to be whittled.

I picked up some conglomerate rocks that looked to have some sort of jasper in them. But it all broke to pieces on the already formed cracks. I found a nice looking drusy trapped in some sand stone. Might be some sort of geode I handed it to my 5 year old and haven't seen it since. The boat, boobs, cold beer, and fishing with the kids was hot on my mind. We have a lot of the jasper conglomerates here also . They don't tumble very well , undercut between the jasp chunks . Sure are pretty wet . Understand the priorities on a weekend off . I did finally get to sit down with my rockhound buddy and go through a bunch of the leverites that I brought home. He liked a couple of the agates that I had but was especially fond of some jasper that I had found. It was the same stuff the Pogi dude from Idaho was all crazy about. I have a pile of it hoarded in some bushes and need to go back and see if any of the pieces resemble the stuff they liked best. HE suspected that one of the agates I had found could be a fire but it was hard to tell without polishing it. One of my good buddies thought it looked like fish eggs and fell in love with it so I let him take it. Funny how I keep thinking about talking him into bringing it back for some polishing. Anyway I'm gonna need to get to grinding and welding up some equipment soon. No way I'm buying one of these high dollar shafts with wheels on it.

I ain't skeered! Went down to Powell with the family. Choked on flying ants, and other green bugs that like to bite. Wind smashed my tent and my easy up. Bout set the rocks on fire and left. Sure glad the striper were boiling or I may have lost my mind. Sure glad y'all didn't forget about me. Damn baggage handler managed to use my suite case full of rocks as a pulverized. I can't imagine other folks are very happy about the condition of their luggage. Half of my rocks were busted in half and the stitching on my case was about to blow like a fat girls blouse on a rough road. Even went on a weekend torture excursion mini vacation. Didn't think of us. What does a cute, young wife have that we don't have? Never mind, I seem to remember now. Told you that lingerie ads were educational. Guess he's was busy. Seems to be using his suitcase for a rock tumbler. See where the baggage handler put rocks in a suitcase for ole Noah. Those baggage handlers aren't the sharpest knife in the drawer huh. Fat girls blouse on a rough road... wow see why we love that boy? What a descriptive writer! maybe YOU don't have to cut wood today. Got you some right here. Whole pocketful, SFRB large flat rate box headed your way. Now that Noah is going to be alone in Dakota he''ll get interested in rocks again. Like us. only less. Left the cute wife and his rocks here in the next town over all alone. Cant believe he left the rocks. Well now Noah can find more rocks, put them in LFRBs and send them to us. No more suitcases have to die. Better tell him how to pack them or the cardboard will go to heck like that nice 25 cent suitcase of his. Too bad someone smart like jakesrocks don't take pity on the boy and help him with the Dakota rocks he's finding and help him find more and send to us of course. Cleaning the Morrisonite with iron out. Also one piece of Flint Ridge chert. 1 day soak and its a bit cleaner. Dropped it back in before taking off with my bud for a road trip to Southern Colorado. Pagosa Springs. See all the tourist women at the Hot springs. Love Whale watching. Well better go, that Marshal guy is beating on the front door... again. Heading out the back. Cliff

And Cracker Jacks were a dime and had a great prize. Noah has got a boat.. Woohoo. Wonder if he knows how ruthless I am? He's a rough neck rig hand too. Bet it will be fun. Will try and take him on a thunder run to the pet wood area on the ranch and pick up a ton of the purdy stuff. Will be Christmas at yours and some other's houses in July..1 ton dually, full bed.. Maybe more than a ton from DoBells. Might need Tony..
You know you were talked to about swiping photos . Ha ha ha ah that's funny!

Post some pictures or email me some picts. Don't put your email in the public part. Use Pm for that. When you getting home? Im great.. Rich is pretty good when he's sober. Haven't been sober since the mother in law moved in. No montanas in your area or they would have a new name. Bakkens or Dakotas. Rios are agates along the Rio Grande. Yep had to move a bunh of rock and fermenting barrels because the floor was making cracking noises. True ! wigglinrocks
There ya go again , giving away my secrets . I get home tomorrow evening. Going to go see what the hold up is on my bass boat. Need to get down to Hite and catch some bass. I hope I can manage to do some fishing before I jump on the bank and start picking through gravel

I haven't had the fortune of working on a rig. Shortly after starting I wanted to get on one and work toward consulting. I spent quite a bit of time working around workover and completions but have spent most of my time operating plants, pumping wells, and doing midstream work. Currently I have to walk around inspecting all of these locations and have good reason to walk the pipeline right of ways looking for leaks. I checked some parking lots recently and stumbled upon some fist size chunks of chert. I tossed a piece in my agate box and it threw a nice spark. Sort of surprised me. Howdy Wigglinrocks that's a great name, I'll have to read back through some threads and see who's who on here. Thanks for the warm welcome. More of a pumper job? Lots of great new ocations with the freshly scraped collecting sites. Huge smile. If its a large company that will get you into awesome places in Texas for collecting that great stuff there. I think Texas just might be my next stop. I'd like to shake the Dakotas before winter hits. Last year the combination of cutbacks and awesome -60 with windchill wasn't up my alley. I think warmer weather and a boom would be easier to take.

I googled Yellowstone river rockhounds or something of the sort. Ran across this place. Kinda like it so far. If you're into rocks , you're gonna love this forum . Loads of very valuable information and great members . I've been enjoying it so far. I really appreciate the inappropriate nature of some of the comments.

Ha you guys are great. Who wants some rocks? I'll ship some but Cliff can drive over and pick his up. He's not that far from my house. I know the agates are a big deal around this area is there a certain type beside the Montana agate that I should be looking for? Is there a nearby spot where I can find something you're after I'll go check it out. I've been stepping over the prairie agate and quite a few other similar rocks for weeks. I grabbed a few big pieces of prairie agate and the ones with neat patterns but there are so many I think I'd cave the floor in at my apartment up here. Post some pictures or email me some picts. I drive over to Sidney and visit some of the Island areas and rocky shores. Some of the gravel we get comes from that area as well. Also have been picking around Cartright just over the border. Find lots of nice pieces of wood that appear to be capable of receiving a polish. I shoot you my number in a PM and text or email over some pics of what I've got so far. I have quite a few rocks that I haven't identified yet. More so than not and I'm probably off track on most of the ones that I think are jaspers. The prairie agates and jaspers seem to be melded together.

I'm oilfield trash for sure. Worked the gas fields in the Piceance basin for 6 years and I'm going on 3 up here Rockin the Bakken. Looking forward to things picking up back home. Not excited about digging through crusty gray shale though. I'm back and forth every week on a flight so I can pack home about 50 pounds of rock each trip. This one has been the best for finding agate with that dump truck load and a few riverside pit stops. I'll let you know if I get in a bind with these rocks and need to give them to someone. Noah- Grand Junction Send your self flat rate boxes and forget about the plane. Check out the gravel pits and the parking lots landscapes. Many a good rock has been found at McDonalds. And don't go out 2 road by Fruita and look for artifacts. Against the law.... Landscape rock supply places etc. Worked in Rifle, Ely, Nevada, front range, and in Utah for Cardinal, Jacobs, Monument well service, and Veco. p]Tongs, floor, derrick and ran rig 4 for MWS as the driller. I built and operated Mt Garfield Greenhouse and Nursery at 3162 F road in Junction before I sold it and moved away from the heat and traffic. [/p] Be careful out there. Don't lose a finger, Might be your driving finger.. Cliff
[/quote] may have met you at a super bowl party about 5-6 years at the Brennan families place. I'll check out the flat rate of boxes. Seems like every time I ship something it's a ridiculous price. I'm premier platinum status with United so I can burden them with some bags at no cost to me. I'll be sure to not go up 2 road rabbit hunting this fall. I don't want to stumble upon any artifacts

Welcome to the forum and our dysfunctional family !! Now get your butt back home to Colorado. Hard to see any horizon when you're digging in 10 yards of cobble for goodies. Oil field trash? Rockin the Bakken takes on new meaning for you. Don't throw away any rock. Good trading and sucking up material.. grin.. Cliff- Montrose I'm oilfield trash for sure. Howdy folks, I'm very pleased to have found the site and have benefited already from the homepage identification of the prairie agate. Thank you for that. I live in Colorado and work in the Williston area. My boss found a shaped piece of chert in a farmers field and one thing led to another. Now I'm sitting on a bigger pile of rocks than I can fly home with. The dendritic agates have been my main target while out doing various field inspections. Seems to be quite a bit of them in the right areas. Last week a dump truck pulled up at a job site and dropped a load of 6" minus road base. I found my way to the bottom of it. Let me know if there are any support groups out there that can help me keep my eyes on the horizon. I'm not sure if I've seen it in awhile.
Big kudos to the site owner/operator. I have a fishing forum back home that I own and operate. This site seems to be much more user friendly.
