As others have noted, there was something about Ed that was hard to put a finger on A jokester, philosopher, a poet who said seemingly everything and nothing at the same time. One of those souls you have a hard time keeping up with the depth of his musings. Each post was a often a meandering flow of words and ideas, yet often he ended right where he intended to start off.
To me, Mohs was one of the first people that I had meaningful interactions with on the forum. At first his comments were strange and to me very personal at times. Over a short time I began to learn his nature and opened up to having regular conversations with him. We talked about the past and future, relationships, philosophy, books (I have at least 3 of his suggestion), and best of all, rocks.
Last year when I was deciding to travel out west, I had strongly considered venturing his direction just to meet the legend himself. Things didn't turn out that way and I often had that nagging feeling that I missed an opportunity of some sort.
He was a bit of a life mentor and someone I considered a good friend, whether I told him or not.
He'll be sorely missed, as evidenced by many others noting his abrupt absence. He mentioned to me, as Rick also noted, that RTH was sort of a sanctuary for himself.
I thought he had some vested interest in the Salt River Project, it was his avatar for some time. A bench or plaque perhaps, to his views of a city he lived and loved....mostly.

In memory of Ed. The Ladmo bag. Ed and Brian at the Flagg show. Thanks! Brought a smile to my face. He sure loved his Ladmo bag. I had encountered references to his Ladmo bag and always wondered what the word "Ladmo" meant. Can anyone enlighten me?

There use to be a early morning kid show staring Ladmo and Wallace. They would give Ladmo bags away that were packed with goodies.

Mr. Ed Mohs. I was struck right away by your sort of haiku prose. Never did fully figure it out. I bet I'm not alone. And now, we're out of time.
I always thought your name here was clever. Never had such cleverness myself. Mohs. I don't even know it. The scale that is. Not well anyway. Just a few tips. Don't throw low mohs into the tumbler. High mohs I can make nice and shiny.
Speaking of beautiful things. Your hearts. Your hidden rocks. Your photos. Your messages. Scattered all around. In the hot sun. In a tree. In the shade of a tiger. In someones pocket. In the cyber world. For people to find again and again. That will be gneiss. For so many.
Thank you for all you brought to this world. May we meet again.

rockjunquie Thank you for doing all the detective work. It's truly appreciated. I'm glad to see someone in his family is taking care of him. I think a brick at the zoo is a great way of paying tribute to Ed. Count me in.

I have several of Ed's hearts. I went on a scavenger hunt yesterday to find them. I found 2. I believe there is at least one more in a keepsake box under my bed.
He made one for my granddaughter, too. I called her yesterday and asked her if she remembered it. She was like, gawd- that was sooo long ago. It was. She was still in Jr High. She still has it. SOMEWHERE, I have a picture with her wearing it. I may have even blogged about it on my old blog. Ed was tickled pink to get the picture of her happy face while wearing the rockin' heart.
I went looking through my PMs to find the one where Ed encouraged me to try to make a heart and sent very explicit directions on how to do it. It's actually pretty difficult. I never did try and now I have run out of time and I can't find the PM.
Speaking of time. Ed joined RTH Jan 19, 2009. That's a long time to call RTH home.

He got the ball rolling.
We are in the very beginning stages of planning something, but rest assured we will be doing something.

Well if you ever find it, I'd love to see it.
Maybe we should start a "heart making" thread, and get people to post their takes on how to make one ?

Have you ever tried to search your PMs? Not very easy or accurate. I just went through about 100 pages looking in vain for the one where Ed explained how to do the hearts. I did find a few others and had a big grin while reading them and reminiscing. Including the one where he asked what my favorite colors were and then sent these: Terrible picture. The purple doesn't look very purple and it is much nicer in person. But, those are my colors- purple and pink.

rockjunquie Ed had sent me detailed instructions in a pm on how to make the hearts, too, but I can't find it either. I found a response from me thanking him for the instructions. Very strange and I don't have that many pages of pm's to search through.

Well if either of you two every track that PM down, it would be a great tribute to mohs by making it a sticky in the tutorials.
Patty..... hoping it turns up.

The funeral home has a page for him.
ETA They spelled his name wrong. I contacted them about it. When they correct it, the link will change.
A day later, still not corrected. Pathetic.

A day later, still not corrected. Pathetic. Agreed! Ed would have been easier to find had they spelled his name right. I let them know that, too.
